Really Dave? Have you tried both options? My solution is easily adjustable and is less than half the cost of yours.

Thats what I should have done when I replaced the headsail and increased headstay to 5/32 a couple years ago. also you can see under the jib.Having the fractional rig gives a lower pulling power and tighter side stays without useing a gin pole. I still don't use a gin pole tho I have a M gin. I just wish the side stays had turn buckels so you can adjust under way. I am to cheap to change out the system.

.... since we had gone up to the 5/32'n forestay and all 5/16" pins and such. A little over-kill, but it has all worked great. It is a little longer than the 2 on the page you posted a link for and that could be a problem if one wasn't moving their forestay up the mast, but as you mentioned Ruth and I like the forward vision under the sail now.

Yes I have on my Compac 19 and Potter 19. There is nothing wrong with it, just takes a lot more time screwing the turnbuckle. The Johnson requires pulling a pin and that gives you 1-7/8 inches freeplay, and just put the pin in.

Re: Mast rake and backstay adjuster
I finally got around to installing my Johnson lever. I raised the forestay mount up 8" and raised the mast. As a side note. I used someones idea of attaching the mast raising line to the cleats and I used the quick pin in the Johnson lever to clip it to the line. When I raised the mast the furler drum just followed the line down to where it needs to be. Still have to try with the luff and sail on though.
Anyway....After adding the Johnson lever and raising the hound the stay was still too long. I took it down and disassembled the Hayn eye, cut 2 1/4" from the stay and cleaned and reinstalled the eye. It is still a little long as the turnbuckle is almost as short as it can go. I did adjust the mast to have about 4 degrees rake. I used the scum line on the hull to get the boat level as it sits in the water. Almost ready for splash time.

Thank you - bought one before I read this.
