That is so FREAKY! We are actually in Marathon right now with our RV....Curry Hammock SP!
Ha ha!
At the time of the boat show we will be up in the West Palm area though and driving down from there....

I saw your other post about coming down here. What date do you arrive? We are leaving this upcoming Tuesday....

I'm driving my boat down with my buddy on 2/12. He's gonna stay the week with me, go to the boat show Sat, then drop him off at the airport and pick my wife up that evening. So I'll be down from the 15th till 3/2. Then I drive it all back home :|

We rented a house & dock in Marathon. What're the marine conditions like, now?

Awww man, we JUST miss you! Leaving on the 6th for Jupiter/West Palm area. Dang that would have been so cool to meet up....and I could see the shower mod you did, ha ha! I have that bookmarked for later! :D

We keep looking for sites here so we can stay longer but everything gets booked up a year in advance. We have been living on cancellations....seems to work out nicely.

It's beautiful right now....sunny, in the 80s, and there is lots of wind. My hubby is out there kitesurfing right now....lots of kites out....would be good for sailing I would imagine! I would be out there on my kite but I saw man o'war....I am traumatized by those things. Last time I was dragged through a bunch, got stung really bad and lost control of a kite I was just learning on (a 12 meter). Ick! So for now, I am watching him catch the wind while I shop for accessories for our new 26x! :D

That is so cool you rented a place here! The weather will be amazing for you I am sure....it's getting hotter and hotter....

Sorry about the near miss.
My shower mod is in need of an update. Still basically works though.

Accommodations are tough. I'm paying through the nose :| but my Baby's worth it :)
[No, I didn't mean the boat :P ]

Am looking forward to coming down; Praying for a safe trip.

Very Kewl... Kitesurfing... I'm too old and too fat to hang on :P - I'll leave it to the young and fearless :)

Fairwinds,

Heya:-)

Neat, we managed to score a site at the state park in Key Largo until the 11th, haha! I love cancellations....!

So we have been talking about the idea of renting a house like you with a dock maybe next year....bringing the boat down, etc....can I ask how much you are paying? Also, is their space to park an RV? My parents weresaying they would stay down in their RV and pay half of it. Wonder if it's possible....!

So how is the shower in need of an update? Run into any problems? It's one mod I REALLY want to have done!

As for kitesurfing, I don't know your body type, but I will tell you, I have seen BIG guys do it. And also 60-70 year old men doing it. It's one of those sports that if, unless you are crippled, you can learn! And it will get you in shape and you WILL drop the weight very quickly. And it's fun:D

Have a safe trip and keep in touch! If we happen to score more sites in the area, I will let you know....we can go for drinks at the Island Fish Co or something:D

Hi Again. Been busy, busy, busy. I'll PM my phone # and we'll see what we can do. Sadly, I have to leave the show around 4 to pick my wife from the airport Sat. But maybe drinks or something after that.

These are the people I booked the house with: http://www.flakeysrentals.com/keys-information.htm

If you plan ahead, you may find a place for under a boat buck, depending on amenities. If you wait to the last minute, like me, it can cost three times as much as all the cheap ones are long gone :|

Key Largo is great. Was there 2 years ago. Make sure you go to Pennekamp and try some snorkeling. They have trips out to the reefs.

Heya!

Sweet, will PM you our number too! Drunks sound good! :-)
Thanks also for the info on rentals. For sure going to look into this!

Actually, we will be staying at John Pennekamp:-) We've been playing the 'State Park Shuffle' down here....last time we were there we were planning on a snorkeling trip but the rain came in and messed it all up! We haven't gone on one of the excursions there since the first year we were down here, and that was over 5 years ago. I wanna see the big brain coral again:D

I stayed here 2 years ago: http://keylimesailingclub.com/ It's in Key largo. Each place comes with a 23' Catalina sailboat. They also supply bikes, canoes, kayaks, fishing and snorkel gear. Even the small rooms are big. They set you up with a chart and some fun little excursions. We did a sail that took us to some mangroves where we use the kayak we towed.

On a stormier day we took out a kayak and explored some canals and came upon very cools stuff...

OMGGGGG!
My heart literally just burst! I love Manatees!!!!
I have never been in close contact with one yet, and this is after almost 6 years of coming down to Florida....you guys are soooo lucky!
What incredible little fellas....I'd want to take it back home too. Our RV is a bit overloaded though....we have enough of a zoo, hehe!

I am thinking that I would love to do this one year....this is sounding better and better. Thanks so much for the video links:-)

Thanks! We found out later that you are not supposed to touch them but it's hard to resist when it swims up and puts it's flipper on the bow of your kayak. I definitely see why they have to be protected. They are very social a docile but not fast like dolphins.

I hear ya. I don't think I could help myself either! What a touching moment. Ok, that's it...this year I am going to have an encounter with one of them, darn it! I have two and a half months left!
