Re: Roger MacGregor needs u!
Frankly, why should he stop building the M and design a new M? He's already done a good job, the boat is still selling well [isn't it?] and he wants a new personal challenge, which is what the 70' gives him.
Forget the business, he has got to an age when he is bored with the standard business stuff, and feels that he wants to do something for himself, and if it can be offset against tax, and make a bit of money too, then so much the better.
How old would Roger be? 60? I think many of us are at that stage in our lives and know the feeling?
Paul.

Didn't MikeLinmon post something a couple of years back about Roger building a personal 70 footer and then starting a design on a 30 to 33 ft trailer boat?

Re: Roger MacGregor needs u!
The 70' will be a semi-custom high end boat costing $250K. It's never going to be a "bread-and-butter" boat like the 26M, which they will continue to produce. When they made the 65' they previously built they never stopped building the smaller boats that paid the bills.
Mike Inmon said he wished for a 35' and he's been trying to talk MacGregor into it but it hasn't gone anywhere. I'd buy a 35' in a heartbeat if I could still trailer and launch it but there's no way they'd sell as many. Maybe the resin limit in CA will eventually cause them to go up-scale since they can only build 240 boats a year now.
I'm not sure why they don't just move the factory to Yuma or Ensenada. Perhaps they will once the economy picks up and they can't keep up with demand. Their production capacity when limited by forms is four boats a day.

I was thinking it was going to be much higher than that, but I just can't remember the conversation from when we were theremastreb wrote:The 70' will be a semi-custom high end boat costing $250K....

It's not like Roger is living week to week and needs to increase production to live

A couple of years ago, Art Kelly was here talking about building his version of the Hobie 33, called the WingZ Z33, but apparently nothing ever came of that.Uncle Jim wrote:Didn't MikeLinmon post something a couple of years back about Roger building a personal 70 footer and then starting a design on a 30 to 33 ft trailer boat?

I went through Yuma once on my way from to Phoenix from El Centro (one of the Garden Cities of southeastern California). The most interesting thing I saw there was a casino which used to be in Arizona but now is half in Arizona and half in California because the river that was the State boundry MOVED! I thought I'd remembered seeing something about this before - here's the website, complete with Z-33... http://www.wingzsailboats.com/

Re: Roger MacGregor needs u!
Do I understand correctly that Bob and Joni with a Mac D named Andiano are having their boat "tested" by the factory? I heard this on the HPCC e-mail site. I would like to hear about what the factory actually does as opposed to all the speculation in this thread.
Re: Roger MacGregor needs u!
The mold is being made for Hunter who is going to start mass building these in Florida, for Macgregor as this is the market sweet spot right now.
