Installing Yamaha 60 hi thrust on 26m

Post by Mldun »

Well I purchased a 26m without an engine and like many I decided to purchase a Yamaha 60 hi thrust from my local dealer. The dealer began installing today and is telling me the controls are to big to fit in the pedestal. Can anyone help or tell the proper controls that will fit. The dealer said they had installed engines om the macgregors in the past.

With no other responses so far... and the fact that I have a 05 Mercury 50 HP 4 strk BF... Might you look in the mods and the search for discussions about Controls? Look at what others have and what you have ? There must be a way to do this .. I cannot imagine that the Yamaha Controls are ALL that much different what from all..... the rest of us have ..

If you hire someone to do something and thy can't, you need to fire them. Find someone who knows what they are doing. Might want to check with the factory to make sure there aren't 2011 changes in pedestal. The copy exact program at the factory isn't released yet. :D

the dealer is probably talking about the shift controller, tell him that teleflex controls are used instead of the oem controls, all other yamaha stuff fits, tach, key switch, things like that. The shift lever is too long and will hit your steering wheel when put in reverse. The teleflex lever is shorter, will work. Don't use the all in one yamaha shifter that has the key switch and shift lever in one unit, its ugly on the mac, it needs the separate controller and key switch. The merc controller is also too long to use. This is probably what the dealer is talking about: http://www.usboatsupplies.com/mm5/merch ... _Code=AYHC

This is what you need

How do you guys like that Teleflex SL3? Anyone using it with an ETEC-60?

I've got the OEM Evinrude throttle and I HATE it. The "pull up" to shift out of neutral is stiff and annoying, and the arm is so long that people are constantly hitting it while we're moving. I'd like something with a considerably shorter throw and a button lock for neutral rather than the pull-lock. The SL3 says it works with OEM BRP/Evinrude cables, so it might be an easy replace.

Matt, I got the CH1700 (Osprey) instead. With the optional tilt/trim button and white finish it went on to a slightly thicker piece of smoked plastic, that replaced the stock on my 2010 model. It could be mounted with a modified handle configuration, on the stb side if you were willing to cut a separate opening. Reasonably priced.

I've got the Yamaha 50 on my :macm: . This is what the PO had installed:

This is not what you want! Because the unit didn't fit in the pedestal the throttle cables run down the hose on the side and then out through the back. Very ugly and annoying. Works fine but I hate having that hose on the floor.

Is the SL3 my solution?

yes, except you will have to buy a separate Yamaha remote key switch too, its all plug and play but yes for a cleaner install sl3 or other teleflex remotes work fine.

I have a Honda BFP60. The controls fit quite well. Will post a pic in daylight.
