I've always used the paddle wheel to detect changes in speed. sog or vmg help with tactics. but when trimming I look at the speed from the paddlewheel.

I'm surprised I haven't heard of depthfinder speed being more accurate... since it would be more bullet proof. those little wheels are always getting stuck or breaking...

any models to recommend?
