I've always used the paddle wheel to detect changes in speed. sog or vmg help with tactics. but when trimming I look at the speed from the paddlewheel.
I'm surprised I haven't heard of depthfinder speed being more accurate... since it would be more bullet proof. those little wheels are always getting stuck or breaking...
any models to recommend?

This manufacturer's link looks promising:
http://www.airmartechnology.com/
There are many other competitors and I've much more research to do before I can decide what has the best price profile. Others views would be appreciated...
