Re: Electric water project
I got the "Sales at the factory" power water system which includes a transom shower and sink water. We rarely use it, and so far only for washing down the cockpit before sailing which it's good for. I wouldn't pay the $1000 for it again.

Re: Electric water project
I installed a PAR-Max 4gpm 12V Kit , add a bronze thru hull and some hose, I think I had about 2 hours and $150 tied up in it.. Alas I lost my West Marine Connection for major discounts.. Even so its all under $200 another $30 to $50 allows you to add whats needed to remove ballast water to get off a soft grounding.. i.e. 500lbs of ballast water.. I just flip a switch it activates a solenoid and begins removing ballast..

Re: Electric water project
I am starting to work on this project with a few minor changes. I am curious as to what you used for the pipe into the actual water container itself (the hard white looking plastic pipe). It might save me some time at the hardware store trying to find something that will work.

Re: Electric water project
I just went to the plumbing section of the local hardware store and picked up standard clear plastic tubing.

Re: Electric water project
The system I installed this spring has provided carefree filtered treated water for one season and is still running strong.

Do you run anti freeze through the system before winter, or just run it dry?Québec 1 wrote:The system I installed this spring has provided carefree filtered treated water for one season and is still running strong.

Puts a whole different slant on things....we live in a sub tropical area of Australia....and see freezing point a few mornings in winter,if its a cold winter...global warming will probably take care of thatDo you run anti freeze through the system before winter, or just run it dry?

Re: Electric water project
I will run 5 gallons of water with a quadruple dose of water freshner through the system and leave everything in the boat for winter. In the spring I bring in the water containers and let soapy water sit in them for a few days and rince.

I need running water in Le Zephyr when there's no water under Le Zephyr

Re: Electric water project
Rule of thumb.. No Hard Pipe.. No Hard Wire.. everything needs to flex and give, on a boat .... so to speak..
Don't make trouble were there was none to begin with..

Re: Electric water project
I'd think about whether or not to use soapy water as it can take awhile to get rid of its taste. For a small tank, you probably could use a couple of ounces of bleach to remove odors etc. from winter storage. Run it through your lines as well to remove any taste of standing water. I do that with our Plastimo tank in the bow and have never had a problem in two years.

Re: Electric water project
Crikey how do they justify that our twin filters, electric pump, shower, bladder and all valves wouldn't have been half that and thats over here where everything is dearer could even get a plumber to install it but couldn't go where we do without it and it gets well used every day.

Re: Electric water project
Bobless: I don't think he got filters or a bladder...? But No Doubt The wash-down kit.. and the thru hole and a valve, and the little pump and the faucet with the switch.. Dealer cost there's about? $450 in pieces.. and it does take some time to install and time is money.. I have used my wash down a few times , most often when I was living on the hook in Florida. When we are here ? If its in the water its in a slip and I don't use it...
I don't have filters on my system... I am not sure ? But I don't think My little pump would push much water thru a filter.. ???

Re: Electric water project
Quebec 1 I agree with Cedarsailor in using bleach. When I kept aquariums we used bleach to rinse and clean tanks. It was one the few things that would rinse away and leave no residue. Plus keep a little bit on your boat and if you are in an area with questionable water and you have to drink it, like when you run out of beer, you can put in a tespoon full in a gallon of water and kill all the nasties in the water.

Re: Electric water project
I can't exactly see Why you'd want to carry so much water if its main purpose is to wash off the salt residue, at the end of the day. That said - I'd love to be standing at the stern taking a 180 degree shower, and not worrying about when it might run out! Aren't RO systems affordable for the floating set?

Crikey
Our shower is part of the boat water supply and we are away from fresh water supplies for up to 3 weeks, the shower if in remote areas is only a rinse to get the grime or salt off, it helps as a brief cool relief too providing it is not too late and then the mossies and midges make it very brief
Couldn't see the point in pumping dirty river or saltwater up to have a shower in but we could do that with ours if we used one of the three tanks or even added a seperate dedicated one but then there would be the problem of contamination in the lines, although we have used clean river water and the filters which are "supposed to" remove 99+% of virus's do make it taste and appear very clean.
Most of our water is boiled, even that going in the fridge for cold drinks, the filters were to try and counteract the problem of picking up bugs as we travel using different water supplies and so far after travelling by various means over 10 years in very remote and basic areas they have done that.
