Sorry for your damages, but fiberglass can be fixed. Good as new. Till you get it repaired, shop on line for one of those huge bandages. That would look interesting and be a good conversation piece.

Ill bite
30 hours of yard work at 100 USD in NY
500 USD for rub rail
3500 + 8% tax for the Empire state ...a nice round 3780 for your total.
Ooops..I forgot the 250 USD disposal of hazardous waste fees...

IRENE +52
Yes, the wonderful thing about fiberglass is that it is relatively easy to repair. But like anything else, it will cost you to have it done right.
Went to the yard last night, here it is awaiting installation of a new rub rail.

So I thought it would be fun to see who could predict the repair cost for this.
The following is a copy of the repair estimate, which was subsequently reviewed and approved by BoatUS.
As you can see, GaryMayo comes the closest, and I'm in the wrong business.

My only real concern, as I haven't had a claim in 17 years of boating, what is this going to do to my premium?
Regardless, this lesson reinforced me to always pay it.
I'll close the book here.....

Congrats Gary
I missed the labour estimate by 1/2 .....
Also forgot the haulingband storage. Imagine if auto mechanics figured out to charge to store your car when they work on it
Take home..everything takes twice as long as you think in the yard.

I'm no expert, but this was an act of nature, not you driving your boat into a wall while drunk. I don't see how the insurance company can raise your rates in this situation.Laika 26X wrote:My only real concern, as I haven't had a claim in 17 years of boating, what is this going to do to my premium?

BTW, the repair looks great. Good lesson to us all to pay the premiums.

When Chip H had his boat run into by a truck (friend following too close) I was amazed at the before/after pix - like new....

Re: LAIKA survived Irene, with battle scars!
Agreed, I'm honestly quite grateful this is all that happened, and the repair appears flawless. The one downside is that that corner looks newer than the rest of her. In the spring I just might finally "Poliglow" her. I am getting a new rubrail as well. The original was shot in a few places.BTW, the repair looks great.
FWIW, though I may think this was a bit expensive (my gut had thought it would be $3500 total, but seriously, what do I know?) , the man who did it IS known for his excellent craftsmanship. The bottom line is that the price was agreed upon by BoatUS (who SHOULD know), and that I had very little out of pocket expense. He did about 5 boats I know of in the past month due to IRENE, I'm thinking BoatUS knows him well. He was on a first name basis with their rep. Considering what could have happened, I lucked out.
Time to decomm, and add more Mod's so I can continue posting them until one of us pukes!

Swap mooring sides for the next hurricane??The one downside is that that corner looks newer than the rest of her.

Re: LAIKA survived Irene, with battle scars!
TLDR,
advise from mulit hurricane experience. (for next time) pull the boat out of the water, fill ballast with water (at least half, block the wheels, let air out of tires. and put her on the leeward side of a brick or substantial building.
avoid barrel tile roofs or anything not nailed down.
That was not a bad storm at all. just a little storm surge.
many think they have seen it all, after going thru a #1... but once winds get over 130 (#3), they can pickup stuff (coconuts, mailboxes, and whatever, and hurl them at anything and destroy...
and you can get computer matched gel kote, (pm me for links)... I have one locally, and its around $50/pint (IIRC).
I think you were lucky.
cheers!

is the hourly rate listed on the bill? 8887.50 / 57.5 hours = $154.55 / hr? is that right?

Re: LAIKA survived Irene, with battle scars!
85 USD per shop hour, which is actually a good rate in NYC area, if you look at the bill up closely
