Lake Mead Fall Flotilla Oct 7-14, a Time for Sailors

Post by Newell »

If you haven't attended this event it's your loss. There are great sailors, comraderie, super weather, a full array of sailing conditions usually using all the tricks and sails on your boat. The food is great since you do it yourself and yet there is safety in numbers. I am assured there will be several Xs and Ds this year. Welcome to any Ms, Hunters and Cats etc that want to give it a go. :)

Fall Flotilla Sail '11 : October 7-14, 2011 (Including 3rd Annual Lake Mead Sailing Rally while transiting the various Lake Mead Basins)

If you sometimes think 'I haven't used my boat enough this year' like I do, this sail is for you.

BTW Newell! Speaking of sails, did you ever get your First prize main sail for winning the Havasu Pocket Cruisers Convention's MacGregor Nationals?

Also Lake Mead waters are UP. Callville Bay Marina has opened their main six lane ramp with 10 feet of water just before the T cross of the ramp dock (saw a fixed keel unmasted sailboat launched in the lane closest to the courtesy dock side). 16 feet of water at the cut between Battleship Rock and main land at Swallow Bay. Temperature forecast for 90's air temperatures, and with the September 100+ temperatures the water will be warm enough for Pat Gilbert's evening dip. Hope to see some new faces and skippers at Fall Flotilla '11 to sail the best kept secret of Las Vegas, LAKE MEAD :D :D

The answer is No! Not sure if I can speculate on why I never received it on this board, without risk of moderator intervention. We can discuss it at Mead. I will also let Sean Mulligan know for his event. Please bring the trophy, at least it's something. That was a fun and perfect race for us, would like to repeat it.

I am bringing my D boat, mainly to give Steve K. a comparison standard and there will be plenty of X boats I think. Thanks for the info. about Echo Marina, I think I will still launch there, thinking the NPS will maintain oversight of parked vehicles.

The weather and water should be perfect.

Believe the NPS still has a station there and the RV camp site is still operational. Only the concession has closed down with their services. So vehicles/trailers should be safe much like when Government Wash ramp was operational. Let the group know what you find available. My information is from a placard notice at Callville Bay Marina announcing "No Service at Echo Bay" (also a Forever Resort concession).
