Is there a trick to keeping the battens on the OEM mainsail from flying out. I'm installing correctly but still can't keep them in. It's almost like they're too short for the pockets. They're replacements from BWY.
Thanks,
Bob

You need to get a pocket sewn over the ends or put some velcro there, gave up after losing them as quick as iI replaced them.

I had the same problem until I used sail repair tape to seal the open end of each of the mainsail's batten slots. It was an easy fix. The battens now stay in place.

Re: Battens Keep Flying Out
our other boat has velcro straps which work well
on the Mac, I wrapped rigging tape (the stretchy, rubbery stuff that sticks to itself) around both ends of battens, so now if they pop out, they don't go shooting out.. usually just poke a inch or so out, as it can't easily slide in the pockets with the new rubber tips. Haven't lost one yet. Have poked out of the pockets many times, but hasn't come out!
But a spot of velcro or sail repair tape would seal the pocket enough as well

We stitched also. Took about 15 minutes and costs about $0.02. Has worked without attention for four years.
