I used to use Spic and Span on the teak on my Hunter. Worked wonders.

Never tried Borax. Thanks for the tip.

Wonder how #18 would work on sails?

18. Remove mildew and mustiness from linens by soak them in 2 cups of borax mixed with 2 quarts of water. Let the linens sit for a few hours, then rinse them clean.

Not sure about Borax but Bon Ami is enviro friendly and works great on the brite work and rust. I also like Simple Green. Also enviro friendly. We use it inside the cabin as well. No chemical residue and a nice smell.

I use it in my pool. 50ppm makes the water much nicer. When you splash, the bubbles are almost fizzy like.

Borax is a salt that softens water, similar in effect to epsom salts. It probably reduced "pruning" on fingers and toes as well as it should reduce osmotic water loss from the body into the pool.

It is used in (outdoor mostly) pools for the purpose of raising the pH, so you cannot add too much of it or you will negatively alter the chemical balance (and the availability of the chlorine sanitizer) of the pool. :)

In most areas where the rain is acidic (="acid rain") and the pool pH is reduced every time it rains, it is used in place of the highly marked-up product they sell you in pool stores labeled as "pH up" to restore the alkalinity of the pool.

OK pool owners, now you are equiped with the knowlegde to start saving $$$! Not to mention it's one less (at least) product you now need to have around the home.
