It would be thin to not get in the way when retracted and could go into its own track so the original factory door could still be used to lock and secure the ship.

I'd like to come up with something like a roll top desk attached to the sliding hatch end on my
.

Re: wood companionway hatch
Dave,
It is 1/4" (97.884% sure)...my Dad made it for me. It fits in the groove of an
with no adjustment. Don't use it that much though. If it is warm I just drape a mosquito net over the hatch/companionway and if it is cold I usually use the stock cover as it is a little easier to use.
He also made this sweet "lift-top" table with "fiddles" to keep things from sliding off.

I had intended to get a piece of plexi and cover the table and have a local area chart under the plexi...but never got around to doing that. The table is great place to store boat papers, manuals, chart books, and keys, cameras, wallets.
Good luck.
Cheers,
Jim

You have A/C?LOUIS B HOLUB wrote: For the hatch A/C, we used a separate cheap piece of "plexi-glass" (plain), with a cut-a-way for the AC. Works fine, and only used seasonally.

You betcha !! When we roast possum, cook taters, and boil water, the cabin requires A/C...
An A/C in a Mac is tooooo easy. A 5000 - 5250 btu is "plenty" for a Mac. It's easily stored under the dinette. Its not heavy, easy to set up, etc.
The "condensation" drain is through a tube coiled out the back.
Works fine...there are threads displaying other installations...done similar as mine, with pics., if interested.

Yeah ..... We have airconditioning in Canada! We just open the flippin windows.....
Though this year it's hard to tell whether we should be turning on the furnace instead.
I hear in Australia, they have both AC and DC!

Great idea--I'd do it in the original track except that I need every inch of headroom under that hatchCrikey wrote:I'd like to come up with something like a roll top desk attached to the sliding hatch end on my.

I'm trying to figure out a simple way to make the hatch a pop-top.

Do you sell those?

This is a quick project I made several years ago before a trip - luan face, pine backing, plastic screen, eight coats of varnish. This year I want to build a new 3 piece unit to stow easier.

I worked with eye grind design to custom make an acrylic one. They Make lots of custom parts for boats.
I think thy just started designing a inlayed replacement table. http://www.eyegrind.com/smallboats.html

Re: wood companionway hatch
Here is a hatchboard I made. More for fair weather , but will work in light rain.
It is made of 3/4 oak furniture grade plywood (had on hand), with screen (pet proof), with 'Sunbrella Shade' inserts that can be velcro'ed on, off, part way.
I routed the inside and outside profiles for an exact fit.
Nice to have a lightweight solution, that can be used for ventilation, and being able to see out, but not be able to see in!
I reinforced the velcro with stainless steel staples so it wouldn't peel. I painted it with white house paint
So far it is the wife's favorite mod!
