Broke the screw on the winch...

Post by Sonias Driver »

Over the weekend I decided to rebuild my winches. (1969 V2-22)

I found that the flange on the support bars for the pop top was the perfect size to fit in the slot on the top of the winches. I removed the screws on the top, removed all the guts. The ratchet holes are quite worn, but still serviceable. I cleaned off all the old nasty grease, dried, re-lubed, and reinstalled the winches. Port winch went back on fine. Starboard winch went on fine, but the screw on the top went in and just kept turning. Removed and examined - threads sheared off in a neat little helix. :-(

Now I need to find a replacement screw. There is no brand on the winches, only a tiny circle with a trident in the center, which I presume is a logo.

Any help identifying the manufacturer of this winch, and/or a source for the broken bolt would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Try calling the factory in Costa Mesa, CA. Good luck!

If it isn't one of the big guys still in business ( harken, lewmar, wichard, ronstadt, garhauer) the company is almost certainly dead and buried

Why not take your other winch apart and take the screw for a match ?

Find a nut that fits it to confirm thread size

Warning... If it's British kit, you might end up learning about funky thread types
