Please help for a needed broken 26M steel trailer dimension
Long story, but the draw bar on my 05 steel trailer broke on retrieve this weekend.
Interior rust.
It missed being super ugly, but not by much.
I live 150 miles from my boat, and no chance of getting some crucial measurements for my long distance repair, hence the request for help from a like minded soul.
The trailer in your backyard will be a plus!
Here goes.
(All can be plus/minus 1", although tighter is better)
Use the approx weld line where the two side "C" channel rails and the 3" square tube drawbar all come together as the "zero"reference point:
1. Measure, heading aft, along the top of the drawbar, from the above reference point, to the short crossmember were the drawbar is welded to.
2. Then measure from the zero point forward to the round solid brace and note that, then continue in the same manner to the winch vertical support.
These three measurements are worth gold to me at this point.
I'll tip a cool one in your honor when all of this is behind us.
Thank you seems trite, but really, thank you.
Bill

Matt19020,
You are a kind Sir and Gentleman.
If you don't mind me asking, what other name do you go by?
Matt19020 will be somewhat awkward when we raise our toast to you
Thanks.

Re: Please help for a needed broken 26M steel trailer dimension
Matt is my name and the boat is "My Time"...I am a modest man but I will accept that toast
...I am just glad I can help out...
I hope I followed the directions but if not I am currently in the process of uploading some pictures with a tape measure laid on the draw bar...give me a couple more minutes with that...If you need more info I can try to respond before the end of the night( I am not on late during the week I have a 4:30am wakeup)
1. Measure, heading aft, along the top of the drawbar, from the above reference point, to the short crossmember were the drawbar is welded to. 36 1\2"
2. Then measure from the zero point forward to the round solid brace and note that,4 1/2"
then continue in the same manner to the winch vertical support.20"

Wow, just wow.
You are the man.
Pictures and everything.
Our deepest gratitude to you for your time and effort spent on a total stranger.
What can I say but
Thanks.
If I can ever somehow return the favor, consider it done.

Bill no problem with the post I hope all works out well....If you get the opportunity can you post some before and after pics so we may know what to look for...mine is a 2006 trailer based in fresh water and realize that these are cheap baseline products and should start saving for a new trailer in the future

Here's to a long distance friend
Coming through
With the goods
when
Simply Asked.
So, Let's all raise a glass!
When your back's
against a wall
and
A mess is all you see,
There's help that you might call on,
Matt's the bomb for me.
Cheers!

Re: Please help for a needed broken 26M steel trailer dimension
Amazing, was only a coupla weeks back in Trip (Daves ) thread about getting rid of the rust inside the drawbar that I actually looked at mine (SHOCK HORROR at seeing about half its diameter rusted away) and commented its strange we havnt heard of any failures. Geez, everybody really needs to climb in there and get a look as some of the guys with older trailers who trailer long distances could be driving a death trap of a rig without knowing
Mine hasnt failed yet, (the aluminum of my 07 trailer did though) but my bar is bent....
Glad to hear no one was hurt and best of luck getting it sorted out fast.
