Average Length of Furler Line

Post by jcasale »

Greetings,

I have to replace my aged and worn furler line but can not get to the boat to measure the line I have in place. Can another X owner please tell me what the length and diameter of thier line is. I currently run a CDI roller furler (can't remember which model) with a 150 Genoa. My line is run down the port side of the boat and cleats off just outboard of the cabin top winch. Thanks,

John

Greetings jcasale..
Total should be genoa "foot" (+/- 17 feet) plus roller-to-winch distance. (no lees than 35 feet total). Have in mind to add 2-3 feet to tie the end rope to the roller an a couple of extra turns. 40 feet is a good choice.
Rope section: I use 8 mm nylon rope(0,3 inch diameter) but could be a little less (6 mm. should be enough).
Goog luck
PD..: I forgot: It also depends on your set of cleats and roller drum to pick the appropiate section.

John,

When I replaced mine I went down a size...but don't remember the size. Sure makes it fit in the furler drum much easier. I used to have issues with occassional furler jams due to slightly fatter line.

Never have those problems now.

There used to be a marine supply store (not a West Marine) down San Jose from your marina. Can't remember if it was North or South of the Marina but it was on the same side of San Jose as the marina. It was in one of the shopping centers. They probably sell line so it wouldn't take you too long to take yours off, measure the length, then make a quick run to that store and buy some new line. Nearest WM that I remember is the other side of the NAS on Roosevelt.

Good Luck.

Cheers,
Jim
