The kobra looks cool. Id fix it so the shank came completely off. Wonder if the 35 pound would fit in the :macm: anchor well that way.

What size did you get? Must say it is quite a bit lighter and less than half the price (which I am sure the first mate would appreciate) of than the 25lb recommended by Manson. How is it working so far?

It should be delivered to my sailing club sometime this week. I got the smallest one at 12.3 pounds , as it is the one they recommend for a 26 foot boat. I ordered it through my sailing clubs bulk ordering service for 70$.

Cool. I would be interested in your plan for mounting also ie bow roller etc. Looks like it's a smart design more economical and light weight.

Another Manson installed on an M.

I went back to using the Fortress on Erie, because the boat ramp is so steep, the Manson hits the step pole when launching. The Manson will go back on for the Bahamas.

As long as your is shallow water, I guess a 35 lb. -er would be fine?? But thats a lot of Anchor and chain to be hauling by hand if your in deep water..
Rode size can be over done as well..Too big a rode allows for no stretch and can dislodge your anchor .. I got a Danforth 23 for free.... :) It got left behind in about 100 feet of water hooked in the rocks.. attached my small lift bag to it after I cut the rode off and a few puffs of air and up she went to the surface with me following behind ......carefully rolling up a messy rode .. which we threw away..when we got home..

When we came down here to Florida in the fall I tried putting in with the claw and the Manson on the bow rollers. That was a big mistake. The ramp was steep and the anchors/rollers.....

....caught on the bunk guide tubes on the trailer that go all the way to the bow. I had a mess getting everything unhooked. Pulled the anchors and put them on the foredeck and got in the water. When we put in a little over a week ago I put the anchors on the foredeck again until we were in the water and also unhooked the bunk guides and had no problems.

Maybe just launch with the anchor on the deck. So far the Manson 25 has been holding every night on this trip and the last one. I use it now as the primary anchor and only use the claw when we are in a tight place and need to be on a Bahamian Moor.

I would suggest making sure you are set up to use a Bahamian Moor when you come down. We have a Fortress FX11, but have never used it yet. It is apart and stored. I'm not sure how the Fortress would be on a Bahamian Moor vs. the claw. So far the claw/Manson combo has worked great and held us tight, no swing, a number of times.

Buy a 22 lb. claw and store the Fortress disassembled along with another rode. Then if you loose an anchor over there you are still in good shape. I hope we don't loose an anchor, but we felt we might once....

Depends on the Gulfstream.... :D

Our paddling is usally island crossings of 3-5 miles. We were the first group to kayak the Brigantine islands in the Bahamas. Found some excellent sea caves.

I'd like to get opinions on my anchor setup for my :macm: . I've got the stock anchor & rode, but we're going to Catalina next week and it'll be our first time anchoring the boat. I've anchored along the channel side of the island before, so I know that we're looking at pretty deep water (35' or so). For a better main anchor that I can still pack away, I picked up a Fortress 7# for 28' to 32' boats. It claims 4000# holding power. I also picked up 200' of rode and 15' of 5/16th chain for it.

I looked hard at the Manson Supreme, but I trailer routinely so I really do not want an anchor on a bow roller, and the Fortress was the highest capacity that looked like it would reasonably stow.

OK, I'll bite, what is the "stock" anchor & rode on a MacGregor?

The setup that you describe would be marginal for an anchorage of 30'.
