Parts layout for mast raising gear?

Post by BlueSeas »

Hello all,
I got a 1991 26S last fall. I've lowered the mast by hand once and immediately saw the inherent problem of not being able to stop and untangle a line :o So the boat came with a jin-pole, some short lines with S-hooks and a 4 part tackle. I've raised and lowered larger masts using the boom as a jin-pole so I understand the basics. What I'm looking for is, What are the factory attachment points? There are two small eye straps on the cabin top outboard of the mast base. One is slightly ahead the other slightly aft. I can't think of what else they might be for so I'm thinking these are for the temporary side stays. Then there are a couple cleats on the mast about 6ft(?) up for the other end of the stay? Then there is an eye strap forward a foot or two back from the bow. I guess this is for the block/tackle since then the line is just long enough to reach the sheet winches. Is this right?
Finally I'm using the spin halyard from mast top to top of jin-pole. I Does this all sound right? Anybody have locating pictures of the hardware?

I saw Cookwithgas' video and see that as a challenge, so far I'm at 90 minutes :? to get the mast just off the aft brace. Hoping for confirmation before a full lift.
Thanks Ed

See if this helps....

...it is how ours is setup with the stuff that came with the boat.

I pushed it up a couple times, but at my age just didn't feel it was safe for me or the boat :) . I like the fact with the pole I can do it by myself and stop at any point that I want and it maybe takes 3-4 minutes to rig up the pole and block and tackle,

Hi Sum,
Wow that's some website you have!
Yep my setup looks the same, I just ran the line to the port sheet winch. The deck locations looks the same but I can't tell from your pics if they are eye straps.
Thanks Ed

If you are talking about where the baby stays attach to the deck, yes they are eye straps. I'm not at the boat and can't tell you if they have backing plates or not. Now thinking about it I hope they do. I'm going to have to remember to check that out. There is considerable strain on them at time, especially if where you are setting up is not real flat.

Good luck,
