Wanted, MacGregor trial sail in Perth

Post by Trialsail »

Hi,

I am interested in the MacGregor 26 and I wish to go on a trial sail in the Perth vicinty, to get a better feel for the boat.

Is anyone willing to show me the marvells of the MacGregor?

Also, can anyone comment on:

Suitability of entry/exit from the water wearing scuba gear?

Adult water skiing: Effective or gimmick?

Thank you,
Rick

As I'm on the other side of the country a trial sail is not possible.......but I would imagine entry/exit with scuba gear is going to be difficult....our's only has a 15hp and the space left on either side of the engine doesn't leave much space.....as for waterskiing!!!

Hi Trialsail,

Water skiing (especially slalom) no. Wakeboarding, deffinately. 3/4 WOT with a 60Hp would be a comfortable speed. She kicks up a great wake with full ballast.

Scuba diving is not out of the question. Rolling off the side of the cockpit would be the way to get wet. Taking your gear off (BCD and weights) and attaching them to a rope to the stern cleat and then climbing up the ladder without fins would be how i would get back on. Then lift the gear on once you are on board again.

I haven't dived off a Mac but i have done plenty of diving off a lot of different boats, i think it would work okay, not great, but okay.

Hope this helps,

Cameron

Thanks Bartmac and Cameron for your reply and input.

Wasn't sure how practical it would be to climb aboard with gear and get past motor, even with small custom made marlin board on one side.
Cameron, your method certainly sounds workable and a safe way of re boarding.

Cheers

I use the dinghy to dive and spear from, hang a rope with spliced eye on the end over the side, slip the eye through any heavy gear and back up to a secure hook point on the dinghy then climb out, keep your fins on to give a bit more omph getting out of the water, lift the heavy gear, alternativly I find climbing in and out around the motor a PITA.

Rick,

when were you hoping to go for a sail. I'm in Perth, (Mullaloo) and have a :macx: 26x. Depending on availability and of course weather conditions I could tee up a trial for you.

This Saturday afternoon (12 Feb) I could take you out from Ocean Reef for a spin. I am racing/sailing on a different boat on the morning and if the race finishes around lunch as it is scheduled to do, I should be OK for putting the :macx: in by 2-2:30. Let me know if this suits.
