Sails

Post by old guys sail »

Okay. Taking inventory of my Mac 22 sails. I dont really know sails from.............but wanted to describe them. Someone wants to buy them, and I would appreciate any guidance on price

1) Mainsail that came with boat. V-22 4103. Rope guide. no battens/no reef points. some repair tape at the top in a small area.

2) Extra mainsail I got with some other items. V-22 3417. nylon guides on brass hanks. 3 battens, one reef point. In slightly better condition, no repair tape.

Both are 20' by 8'

3) Jib--Rowland--small, imagine its a storm jib. Hanks. Has a little plastic window.

4) Jib--original Mac came with boat. Full jib, I would call it. hanks. Labeled number 50487

Mac sail bag, labeled V-22, Main--Jib--3417.

And one sail, I dont know what it is. Beautiful colored, red, orange, yellow, etc. 22 1/2' high, 15' wide. Has plastic window, has "clam cleat " out at the bottom corner below the halyard side. Guess for a whisker? I wonder if this size sail (Genoa, spinnaker--I dont know) would work on my 26?

Any words of knowledge from you guys would be appreciated.

Old Guys Sail: The sail # on Venture 22's usually matched the hull number. Your hull is probably 3417 or 4103. Depending on what year your 22 is the hull number is either drilled into a stringer under the cockpit on the starboard side, or it is on the starboard stern embossed into the hull. 22's originally came with rope luff and battens??? Th jib # 50487 is a PHRF, performanance handicap racing fleet, number. The multi color sail sounds like a genoa or a geniker. The cam cleat is for shortening the luff. Whisker pole fitting is usually a grommet. Should work fine on your 26 although 22's were masthead rigged. If you're fractional the forestay might be too short. Hope this helps some. Fair Winds and full Sails...Old Salt...
