I'm not making any judgements about anything here... Just edge of the seat watching it!
Hope to never be in such a hairy situation, but if it happens and I get through in 1 piece, I would sure love the video!!
Brass bollox for sure!

I agree with Cat, Highlander, and dennis - he surfed down that last following wave, with wide-open throttle no doubt, to get the momentum he had going into the entrance - timed perfectly - watch again and you'll see him actually turn back away from the entrance (to starboard) and get over one more wave to move back upwind farther again...he knew exactly how far he needed to be, and then rode that last wave in like a surfboard...awesome!! And watch how big his bow wake was - he was "speeding" for sure...

I've driven a large powerboat fishing in open 6-foot seas while trying to troll with following seas - it can be pretty obnoxious to deal with even with power on - but after a while you get a feel for how the boat's going to handle the next wave...you can just feel it coming and you know which way to lean... I'd bet those guys have done that maneuver a buzillion times, especially if that's their home port!

Somebody needs to follow me around with a video camera. I have not done that drastic of a maneuver yet but I am sure it is coming. If I make it through alive everytime a boat handling argument came up I would just say watch this. Now here is what you need to do for your hypothetical situation or what you should have done in your situation you know like 90 percent of the people on this site except I would have the video that would shut those 90 percent right the hull up.
