Battery Wire

Post by jpatter »

Sorry I have been away for awhile, but mother illness turned for the worst and lost her in August. I am ready to start back working on my 1992 26S. What would be the easiest way to pull new battery cable from the laz up to the power distribution panel or should I give up on that idea and mount the battery(s) under the sink in the galley. I have tried fish taping, but keep hitting foam blocks in the cavities.

I used fish tape also the first time, went from the starboard side in the laz and down at a 45deg angle to the bottom. Once you get it past the upper and lower lining it is not that hard. now I have a string that I leave there so when I need to run a new wire I pull the wire and another string with the string installed (always a string there for next time). But from what I under stand that for balance on the S and D models you want the battery low and forward for best performance.

If you keep your gasoline in the laz, then best is to have your battery elsewhere.

In my 26s, I moved my two batteries from under the sink to under the v-berth. I ran wires from the laz, and forward to the v-berth, and used some of that blue plastic flexible electrical conduit. It's a bit of work, but once the conduit is installed running wires is easy, and conduit is stiff enough it can be pushed through a lot of areas.

Here I have a lot of pictures of the project if you're interested.
