Keel bolt on a V-21?
I have spent 2 and a half years (planned on 6 months!
) fixing, painting and generally remodeling my 1969 Venture 21... I'm now to the point of slapping on the hardware and working out the final kinks... I know from reading the old manuals and some past threads that there is a locking bolt to keep the keel in the vertical position... problem is... all I see is one bolt and a 3/4" hole on top of the keel encasement in the cabin... I'm thinking either... 1.the bolt I see IS the lock bolt, and the actual pivot bolt that the keel swings on is hidden, 2. the bolt I see is the hinge bolt and somehow there is a vertical bolt that goes in that little 3/4" hole to lock that keel in place or 3. somehow the locking bolt-hole was covered up ??? Anyone familiar with this kind of thing?

Re: Keel bolt on a V-21?
The lock bolt is definitely not vertically mounted. A 3/4" hole drilled into the top of the keel trunk sounds more to me like a previous owner drilled it to be able to pound the keel out of the trunk for servicing.
On a '69 V21, your pivot bolt is likely a 1/2" bolt (5/8" hex?)--unless a previous owner upgraded to the 5/8" bolt. Between the pivot bolt and the lock bolt, the pivot (hinge) bolt is the lower-most of the two. If you have a bulkhead mounted against the trunk, you might have to remove it in order to access it. I haven't seen the interior of a V21 first-hand; but on both my V2-22 and M25, the pivot bolt is fairly close to the the bottom of the trunk.
If the bolt you are seeing IS the pivot bolt, look for signs of fiberglass repair work. Sometimes the lock bolt holes become damaged when the keel strikes bottom or swings against the bolt, and some owners opt to fiberglass over the holes to prevent leaks rather than repair them for use again.
