So, pulled all the lines off the boat, halyards, sheets, lines, etc and washed them up.
They feel so much nicer to hand and smell so good. I guess even 13 year old rigging deserves a bit of care every now and then...

If you have any prespliced dock lines, be careful. Just last week, after very securely tying up the boat and walking away, a fellow started yelling for me. As I turned, I saw Nice Aft's bow moving away from the dock. The splicing on the dock line had become unstitched, and the line just slipped away from the cleat. The stitching just wore out
That line was only five years old. I tell you this because you said:

Nothing pre-spliced, just good ole straight lines.
They all look pretty good, no abrasions, fraying, nicks, or anything.
They just look and feel a lot better than they did before...

I use Woolite to bath the sheets and halyards every few years when they are too dirty to stand anylonger. It also makes them soft to the touch.

I seem to recall reading that you can wash stiff lines in fabric softener to make them softer.
Wow! I've never had that happen. Of course when I splice them and add an extra row for safety.NiceAft wrote:If you have any prespliced dock lines, be careful. Just last week, after very securely tying up the boat and walking away, a fellow started yelling for me.
