Tohatsu 50 HP

Post by mpicanso »

Hello All,

Well got the boat back in the water after 5 years , and besides some small problems the launch went well.

Took her out on Providence Harbor and all went well, but she felt slow under motor. I know it has been 5 years since I have been on her.

My question is with a Tohatsu 50 HP 2 stroke, full ballast tank, both full tanks full (18 Gallons) and 3 guys about 200 pounds each, how fast should it go? :| The boat was only able to go 10 MPH (GPS based) with all boards up.

Also the engine maxed out at 3000 RPM. At the dock I could rev it up to 5000 to 6000 with out a problem.

You need to get those revs up. ...plugged jets in carb maybe? Try Seafoam (the product, not the junk you scoop off the top of Prov Bay...)

If it is a carburetted model of the 50ph Tohatsu, it is almost assuredly the carbs being plugged with old gas resins. Although if it were a light amount of sludge, Sefoam would help, but after 5 ears I suspect you need to pull them off and do a thorough cleaning. Tohatsu's are really sensitive to this and need to be properly drained after use if you're going to store them for long periods.
