Lake Dale Hollow, TN

Post by fishheadbarandgrill »

Has anyone ever sailed lake Dale Hollow on the TN-KY boarder? I just spent the week there on a rented house boat. What a great lake... 165 miles of lakefront. Beautiful blue-green water. I didn't see one sailboat. That might have been because of the steep cliffs surrounding the lake. It was flooded in the 1940s and has sandstone cliffs all around. There was a breeze so I presume you could get around good enough with the cruising spinnaker. Plenty of marinas for fuel, etc but not enough to think you're being crowded. I'm thinking about trailering up there next year even if I have to motor around for a week.

I haven't sailed there, but I have spent a lot of time boating and diving there.

I have seen sailboats on it. The wind is going to be light and variable... like it is every where else on the lakes in middle and east Tennessee. Expect to spend most of your time 1-2 knots, with stretches short stretches at 4 knots and occasional shot gusts pushing you to 5-6 knots if you are lucky. You'll do best if you have a 150 and/or a drifter.

There is plenty of room to sail, if the wind is cooperating that day.

Here is the typical wind forecast for the general area.
