I found the charts from Navionics to be quite helpful.I have the iPhone app from them which I use when I am sailing. I do mostly (calmer) lake sailing.
I had a couple of questions:
- Has anyone used the app on a iPad?
- I find that the depth information from this app is not quite so accurate. I was wondering if anyone has NMEA compliant depth and/or fish-finder / wind information displayed on a portable unit (like iPhone / iPad / other) wirelessly?
I, personally, do not want to spend so much on dedicated devices (dedicated display, waterproof PCs, etc), when the industry is moving to software solutions and standardizations. I am thinkig that displaying the information from the transducers on a postable screen should not be that difficult - I could mount the iPhone/iPad on top of the steering column and make a decent protective cover from plexiglass.
Comments / experience / suggestions requested, pls.
