First sail with Beene this yr

Well was up in Barrie on Sat spending more boat bucks @ W/M & gave Geoff a call so he invite me our for an afternoon sail which ended up into the evening

so as the evening moved on the wind dropped from 10knts down to 4knts so Geoff decided to cheat a wee bit and powersail to get us back upto about 6knts then about 1/2hr later the wind dropped off completely so G decided it was time to drop the sails & fire up the big iron genny a few more rev's & said to me buy the way did I tell you my new 15" pitch prop works a charm I said no so just to show me how happy he was with it we cruised back in at about 22knts

I see you didn't spend much time flaking the main Tighten up that rigging too Seriously, tighten it up Ok. I'm not just kidding around. Tune the rig man.

No speed limit , only when at the beach once inside the beach markers 5mp/h, approaching the harbour or marina 7mp/h
yes the wake is kinda cool

No back stay just his old top lifting now used to fly the flag

Yes I was jibbing him too about that loose standing rigging was sooo embarssing I hid in the cabin until we left the marina
Yep we always have a great time out on the lake

Hovering around 22knts into light breeze
2 adults 2 kids aboard

I guess I need to upgrade my prop. Mine's a 13.75x13 (on a Suzuki 70) There is no way I come close to that speed, ballast empty at 4000 rpm (more like 10-12 knots!!)
Of course towing a dinghy doesn't help. Your video made it look real steady. I think I'd be spooked at the touchiness of it, esp with the mast up high center of gravity. And there you are, with one of you just wandering around the top deck at that speed. You are definitely more experienced and confident than I!

We have the big block Merc 75 f/s so lots of torq actualy my block is even bigger the geoff 's with fuel inj.

I don't know off hand the CID of my Suzuki 70. Like yours, mine is a 4 stroke EFI.

I'm sure there is plenty of expertise out there about prop size options & trade-offs with the Suzuki 70. It's on my list of questions for the BWY crowd when we meet up in 2 weeks. There may even be a thread here on the subject.

Part of me would like to go as fast as your boat, but I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be at that speed with such a light, top heavy boat.

In any case, I'm more focused on trying to get the most sailing out of these light fickle winds of the Puget Sound & San Juans
I sure is different than the steady wind in San Diego where we took our ASA sailing course!

I checked out the block size for your eng . on the suzuki site only 1502 CID thats 230 CID less than my bigger block so I dout you can match the torq spec's
your gear ratio is 2.59:1
my gear ratio is 2.33:1
your eng weighs in @ 341#
my eng. weighs in @ 399#

No p"ssing contest here just trying to help , for our boats its not about HP you need the big block for torq. and the right gear ratio & you'll kick butt outa some one with more HP, smaller block & wrong gear ratio

I'm sure Geoff is as concerned as you. You'll notice that his boat is going in a perfectly straight line on relatively smooth water.

Hi guys

The Mac M handles better at higher speeds then it does at lower ones.
Once on top, and I mean right up on top, not kinda sorta maybe ish..... , the Mac M handles great.
You will see in the video, later on, I make several turns, all the while the boat remains stable and on top.

With the M still in the hole, she handles poorly. Very unstable. Wants to wander. Bow dancing all over, hard to control and almost like it has a mind of its own.
All bad things.

Once you hit 20+ mph, she handles like a powerboat for the most part.
You will find you can handle corners with confidence.

Takes getting used to.
But she can handle great.

One thing to keep in mind is the balance.
With an empty ballast tank, she is sensitive to load shifting.
Keep that in mind at all times while powering at high speeds.

Weight on one side can and will lead to a turn that you were not expecting.
The boat will lean to the side the weight shifted to, and the hull contact with the water will cause enough drag to make the boat turn to that side.

I think the best prop for your Suzi 70 would be the 14x13 with transom wedges.
I believe BWY installs those on all 70's now.
