Very nice.
I noticed at around 2:10 the foot of your main does not appear to be attached to the boom.
The cigarette boat does NOT look relaxing.

Re: Life is Good
Very nice indeed!
Russ, he has an advantage with that loose-footed mainsail if he chooses to get a Cradle Cover (Stack Pack, Mack Pack, et al.) for the main. I had to have the luff-rope in the foot of my mainsail taken off, as part of making up my Stack Pack.
Ya know, there are bigger boats, there are faster boats, there are fancier boats, there are boats that are more seaworthy and sea-kindly than our Macs. But when the weather is nice and the wind is right, I can't see how sailing any of those other boats would be any more soul-satisfying. Life is good, indeed.

Re: Life is Good
Around 2:13 it looks like you are pinching your genny just a bit - the luff looks backwinded a bit? Later on it fills out - did you tweak the sail and/or course??
The balance on the helm looked really good - your A/P was barely working..
Now that Ive criticised your sail shape, its fair of me to say the only times Ive had my telltales flying like that is when I dip them in epoxy and set them straight...

G,
That is what it is all about IMHO! Very nice. And your boat looks great.
Of course if it was me I would have my classic rock cranked up for even greater relaxation...and as long as nobody was nearby I would be singing along...too loud and out of key...
Cheers,
Jim

I had my stoc main changed to a loose footed one for better sail shape.
Had it done the same time I got my 1st reef point installed.
Cheers

Ya Ya
Leon saw the video and ripped me for a lot more than just the 2:13 part of that video.
To answer your question, No. I did nothing. The boat was in balance when I headed up front to start the video. The winds were light and variable. But on average, they were holding around 45 off to port. So I set the sails for that, auto as well, then went for a nap! LOL
What a nice boat we have. Installing the AP has been #1 fav mod I have done.
I single hand 90% of the time, so it has changed my life having that AP onboard.

A most relaxing video! I think I already have AP envy...
I've forwarded your video link to co-workers who don't understand my obsession.
Last summer, I talked with the owner of a boat like the beast at 4:20, he was topping off about $600 worth of fuel -- for a two day weekend at a local lake. Now that I have my

Sorry. Bad Doug

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQeqmNbA ... re=related It's not far down to paradise
At least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away
And find tranquility
The canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see
Believe me
It's not far to never never land
No reason to pretend
And if the wind is right you can find the joy
Of innocence again
The canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see
Believe me
Sailing
Takes me away
To where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free
Fantasy
It gets the best of me
When I'm sailing
All caught up in the reverie
Every word is a symphony
Won't you believe me
It's not far back to sanity
At least it's not for me
And when the wind is right you can sail away
And find serenity
The canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see
Believe me

Re: Life is Good
I was in Louisiana last week and went out on my uncle's bass boat on Lake Maurepas. He's a competition fisherman and boat makers give him FREE boats to use (to promote their boats). He said the slowest boat they gave him topped out at 78 MPH. We were FLYING through canals in the bayou at some amazing speeds. It was quite exhilarating but I still love the peace of sailing with just the wind.Doug W wrote:Last summer, I talked with the owner of a boat like the beast at 4:20, he was topping off about $600 worth of fuel -- for a two day weekend at a local lake. BTW..I saw a Mac X docked on a canal behind someone's house. I tried to take a picture but it was just a blur.
