After taking our 26X cushions to an upholstery place and getting a $1,000 (not including aft- and V-berth) quote to get them recovered I am now considering other options.
I'm not a big fan of those brown ones from softopper and they are out of the blue. Sadly, I'm not advanced enough on my sewing machine to make my own covers...
Has anyone ever tried dying the covers? Does anyone know if they are cotton or polyester?
Thanks,
Verena

Re: Ugly 26X cushion covers
I would ask around and find someone that sews as a hobby. These are pretty basic forms and if you have the old ones, they would even have a pattern to sew from.
My sister is willing to trade me some work when I am ready to do this, but I have to find the material.
As for dyeing the covers, give it a shot but best to have plan B if it doesn't work out.
Inside covers can all be cloth but the cockpit should be of sunbrella or a like material.

Go to http://www.softopper.com/Catalog.aspx and look at their selection.
I got roughly the same quote and bought new covers from those guys
for a few hundred dollars. They are really good people, the covers fit
tight and they're better quality then the original by far. You don't have
to get brown ones, I seem to recall there were a variety of choices and
if you talk nicely to Dave I think they'll do custom work as well.
