I searched the archives and found little discussion on the use of trim tabs for improved fuel efficiency & visibility from helm? For those who find themselves motoring a fair amount or making long cruises, it seems that trim tabs would improve planing, resulting in better fuel efficiency & improved visibility. Due to limited fuel capacity, I am very interested in increasing efficiency. Trim tabs could be deployed to lower the nose and reduce pounding in steep windwaves (not swells), providing more protection for the sail rig.
May result in some increased drag while sailing, as a tradeoff of controlling the tendancy of the X to travel "nose-up." Adds some additional planing surface.
What am I missing? Sounds like "Smart Tabs" are the trim tabs of choice? Anyone aware of use on an X or M? Many thanks for input.

Perhaps the rudders might prevent their usage?
Not much room back there.
Some folks load the "stuff" on their boats with a better final trim in mind, when /if possible.
Others install wedges under the engine mount to get more "down" tilt to the engine so as to lower the bow.
