26M daggerboard
Hi all, I've posted my new daggerboard in the mods section. I am going to eventually make a correct fitting sleeve & resin it in to the trunk for my MK2 version. Then the daggerboard can be made to fit perfectly from top to bottom of the hull. But for now I'll just enjoy the improvements to sailing the 26M my MK1 daggerboard has made.......improved rudders will be next...........

Good job, looks nice! What is the weight difference between the original and your new steel model?

Very impressed!!
I am sure you will have plenty of orders coming in from all those slow blue hulls
running aground would be a problem with the beefed up board but it sounds as though the positives far outweigh the negatives

Re: 26M daggerboard
That is looking good, I like the idea, better than adding a lead ball at the bottom (it would create a lot of drag when motoring). I saw someone pouring molted lead into lower end of factory daggerboard. What you think about that, is it working?
Also have two concerns about your mod.
1. Galvanization- how is it holding up, have you protected it with some kind of bottom paint, also salt water gets inside and that part is not protected is it going to rust inside?
2. Have you install something different to pull it up, extra blocks etc.?

Re: 26M daggerboard
Looks like a major improvement! As for the extra purchase power required you could tie the end of the daggerboard line to a u-bolt attached to the hasp then down through a pulley on the top of the daggerboard then up through the OEM hasp pulleys then add another 3:1 purchase pulley sytem right at the tie off cleat. You may need a heavier guage hasp though for the extra weight. I did the 3:1 at the cleat to make mine easy for the Admiral.

Re: 26M daggerboard
I added 50 lbs of lead inside our std daggerboard and a 6 to 1 to pull it up with. I welded extra stiffners to the pully bracket so it would not bend at an inapproate time. total weight 75 pounds. I plugged the holes in the bottom so zibra clams don't start growing AGAIN inside our daggerboard, like I cleaned out when doing the mod. Our boat sure did stiffen up when sailing and I'm sure we will hold off reefing by one reef at least, we heal at about 12 deg and it almost stops healing just like a keel boat.

Re: 26M daggerboard
How much does it weigh?
I poured about 55lbs of molten lead into mine. It seems to help a little. Had to add purchase and a better pulley for the uphaul system.
