Stephen, Boblee,

That is just the words I was hoping to hear. I really don't think that bar can be any sort of structural brace for the trailer...it is barely welded on the trailer. I think it is just there to "catch" the daggerboard.

Here are a couple more photos I took today of the trailer.

I am having a hard time finding a welder. Got in touch with one at 2:30 today...he was closing at 4:00 for the holidays and won't reopen until 5 Jan. Another one doesn't answer the phone and has not message. The third, my last hope, has an answering machine but he didn't call me today...hopefully he will be in after Christmas and before I leave for my return trip on 2 Jan. I don't figure it will take more than 30 minutes to knock this job out...but will need a new pipe/bar to put in there.

But worst case, I am pretty confident I can trailer the boat back to Jacksonville even if it is not fixed. I can even take a ratcheting strap around the hull at that point to hold up the dagger board as a backup in case the dagger board line come loose...which it never has.

Thanks,
Jim

Crikey mine stayed lashed up with a bit of cheap rope for 4000 k's but I have extra poles up the front so I got some rub marks on the boat from them, you don't so you won't.
Probably should post a picture so you can get a laugh.

Glad to help, although my service pales in comparison to yours

being aluminum you might be able to fab a bar, drill and bolt it on rather than have a steel to Al weld ...even a piece of wood might do the trick

Update on my trailer. Found a welder to do the repairs. He welded a solid metal bar (rather than another pipe which was what the original bar was) on the trailer. He even painted it black for me. It looks very nice. Very nice looking welds...better than the factory welds. All for $65. Unfortunately the day I picked it up I forgot the camera and yesterday when I pulled the boat out of the water it was raining so I didn't use the camera.

Boat is back on the trailer and I depart on my journey back to Jacksonville on Saturday.

I did get an estimate on a new dual-axle galvanized trailer from Ace Trailers for $3400. Might get a new one next Summer or Fall...we'll see.

Happy New Year!

Cheers,
Jim

Safe trailer trip, and big trip across the Pond. Remember to feather those props on any engines that are burning..
