Feedback on Classifieds

Post by Compromise »

Hi All,
I'm curious to know what the protocol is on asking questions about an ad in the classified section.
I'm thinking about selling my M and there is an ad saying they have clients around the world looking for Macs. Just wondering, if protocol allows, if anyone on the board used this service.
Thanks

Yes, I have gotten my 26X based on an add on this board. The experience was mixed. The seller seemed to be motivated and ready to meet me half way, but he did not reveal many of the problems with the boat. (I am ready to give him the benefit of a doubt on some, but others were so evident that only a person who is totally oblivious of what a 15 grand investment actually means would consider them as "minor glitches" not worth mentioning to a potential buyer)

It was my fault, of course, for practically jumping blindly into this deal, but circumstances were unfavorable and I wanted the boat so badly. I could not give her a thorough checkout because the weather was foul (it was snowing) when we met and I couldn't test the boat or set her up properly. I went by trust, got screwed up on several items, but gained on other items that the seller did not count in as upgrades (he was the second owner and the first owner was exclusively responsible for all upgrades so I am grateful to HIM, whoever and wherever he may be). All in all, everything turned out okay in the end: lose a little, gain a little. The seller refused to answer my calls once he got the money. It eventually cost me two months to set her up the way I wanted and rectify all the problems, but it was still worth it.

Several years ago, I got a couple of sails from this board; the best on-line buying experience I ever had. The seller was utterly honest; he even returned the extra money when it turned out that the shipping would be less than anticipated. Thank you, Alex

If thats me, and I think it was, you are welcome and thanks for the recognition.

BTW, if anyone wants to move up from a real nice and late edition Catalina Capri 18 with kicker and trailer, I would consider trading down from my Mac.

I listed and sold my '02 X a couple of years ago, using only the classifieds on this board. It was sold in August or September, within 30 days of listing IIRC, and the first person to see the boat bought it.

One advantage of using the classifieds on this board is that prospective buyers will (most likely) already be familiar with these boats. You'll not need to spend a lot of time selling the concept of a Mac.

Using the classifieds on this board was definately a good experience.

Good luck!
