Completed install of Electrical Panel, VHF and Stereo

Post by c130king »

All,

Completed my installs before the 4-day Jax Mac Get-Together. It went pretty smoothly and everything works. I have not yet mounted the speakers but I am using them...they just sit on the couches in the cabin for now.

New electrical panel hole

Electrical panel with wooden frame...as well as the box mounted VHF and Stereo. Box is probably a little too big.

New dual battery system with new 1-2-Both-Off Switch.

Those open terminals on the battery scare me. The one fire I've heard about on a Mac was caused by shorted open battery terminals. For a few bucks you can get some caps that will protect the terminals from any loose metal objects that could find their way to that compartment. The caps are the next best thing to a dedicated battery box.

The Neg & Positive are very close, If not the terminal hoods/covers rotate one battery 180 degrees so the same polarity terminals (NEG terminals) are side by side.
It will reduce the possibility of shorting them with a tool or other metal object.

looks great Jim,i have not got a stereo fitted yet but,ive slotted in the Chartplotter and wired it all up,only proplem is that the chartplotter will not communicate with the VHF.

You will probably get a set of boots from a motorcar type chainstore, dont know what they are called stateside, over here it halfords.

Got mine at West Marine, no doubt overpriced, but still pretty cheap.

What's nice about these is they are made for the wing nut type terminals instead of the automotive style terminals. They give plenty of space for a number of wires.

My Interstate batteries have both big automotive style studs and wing nut terminals for both pos and neg. Do I need a different type of boot?
