summer over already?

Post by Irafatsar »

I have a wonderful slip in San Diego's Mission Bay but I can only stay for three months, or its sign a year lease. I cannot believe how fast three months goes by.

If San Diego were my home, I'd get my pen out ... 8)

The Chesapeake Bay is not exactly a "hotbed" of winter sailing. And the 26X is pretty light to be using as an icebreaker.

I'm trying to get the admiral and the marina to see it my way and let me stay one more month. I'm sneaking out today to go sailing with my son before school starts again

IT IS ABOUT TIME SUMMER IS OVER, it has been over 100 F degrees for the last 70 days peaking at 118 F for the last 2 weeks with 90 at night. We only got 8 days sailing in the San Juan islands in the last 2 months, where it was only mid 70's but that is 5 hours drive away from home port. Today it is raining YEA.

Now we will need to waite for a hard frost to kill the WEST NILE VIRIS carring mosquitos, several folks around here are in the hospitle and will probably be there forever.

Now to head over the Cascade mountains to the salt water and no mosquitos and sail the big waters of Pudget Sound.

And here in Oregon. You do know that 2/3rds of Washington and Oregon are desert?

That is best time for Stripped Bass fishing also called Rock fish or it is for the Southern Chesapeake area. So maybe it isnt for you dam yankees up north :D :D (here I am origianily from Minnesota) 8) but either way fish bit in the cold water. 30 and 40 degree water is awesome this 80+ degree stuff is killing the fishing.

Nope their having a doossie of a summer out there, here we have had so much cold & rainy weather & now hot & rainy weather the last few days & now tornado warnings ! . Got up Monday morning after a huge storm 80-90km/h winds & their was my mast sitting on the side of the mast cruch off the roller the only thing holding it was the loosely tied line to the mast crutch this mast has two furlers attached to it with both head sails on she is not light by any means to say I was :o is an under statment :| to be lifted off the mast crutch ! :o
Half the towns around me had no hydro , trees fallen down all over the place , I am in the highest area of elavation for Ontario surrounded by Wetlands :D :D :D , grass is a foot high soaking wet so can not cut it ! , between rain & thunder storms can not finnish off the boat ! Dry dock driveway may soon become wet dock slip if this keeps up !
No Summer is not over it has still to begin just need some one to push the start button !
been hardly working since Feb & it seems to rain no matter what when I can get days avail, to work on the boat !
So its 26C outside nice & sunny & you guessed it I'm at work
So here's to a long hot late summer/fall :?

Weather is almost always pleasant in summer west of the Cascade mountains in Washington. Eastern Washington is always another story in summer.

Even here on Puget Sound we have had a rare dry and hot summer. The last couple days we had the first significant rain since May. A few weeks ago we set a new record high in Seattle of 103 degrees. This is the hottest it had ever been since the late 1800's when they started keeping records. The previous record was 99. We also had the first recorded night where it did not drop below 70 degrees.

At the moment everyone is glad to finally have rain, but I'm sure that opinion will change by February. With the El Nino we are suppose to have a warmer, wetter winter than usual. The kids may not even get a snow day, last year they had a unusually high 8 days, and added to the teacher strike days they didn't get out of school until June 25th. My oldest son's graduation was even delayed a week.

The good news is this means we'll probably have an nice extended boating season well into October.

From boating season right into snow skiing/boarding. I love it. In years past I'd come back from skiing Stevens Pass or Alpental and head right over to Lk Sammamish for a little water skiing. :) Just don't let on that it doesn't rain here as much as people think, traffic is a problem all day long, too many Californians. :P  8) Rob

I just got home from a great afternoon of sailing with my son. He goes back to school tomorrow, 8 days left at the slip, I'm trying to get the admiral to anchor in mariners basin next Friday night before I put her on the trailer for a few weeks. She thinks I should have two anchors.
