Option #1 sounds doable to an extent. I have no problem with taking someone out for a day of sailing if they happen to be on the west coast here visiting relatives. Drop- me a line and if our schedules syncronize it can happen. John (Highlander) called me and we made a day of it. No money is involved, it is just a favour that may or may not be returned some day. I would love to get out for a day of sailing if I was in Europe, and now that I have rekindled a freindship with an old portugese high school buddy who has an apartment in the south of Portugal I may be there in a few years.
