Mooring balls ????

my mooring was in shallow waters,to cut down on the swaying at the mooring,i put a sea anchor out astern on a short line.It worked,the sea anchor cost $30.00

Our river moorings are too close to allow deployment of a sea anchor...someone would eventually run over the line and possibly cut it off...and I tried something similar...a sunken bucket connected to a float...on a short line...it did not work that well...the tri-part sail seems the best option...I have to speak to my canvas man!!

I think the Bridle arrangement is the best to reduce lateral movements at anchor or mooring. A link to Frank's method was posted above.

THe boat is like a kite. THe attachment point determines if it will climb agressively into the wind or ride at a stable angle.

Going to try the bridle suggested by Hamin X as it is easily done out here on the island. Am however worried about rubbing of the lines on the side of the boat. Would love to try the anchor sail but no chance of having that made here. Could import but then off course the cost will almost double. We also get winds of 30kts and even although we are moored in a bay the wave action gets pretty mean.Going to put Island Girl back in the water this weekend and will keep you posted.

Yes she is! I too will try Frank-c's remedy for this as its simple and cheap for a start.......
If in fact we make the move have pretty much decide to secure 3 screw / sea anchors to the bottom and chain them in a circle with a common chain to the ball.... should I rather shorten the chain to the ball and have most of that be 3/4 " line ?

I think the best way to go would be to simply pull her out and trailer her during a hurricane. Because in 150kt winds and huge waves, even IF the mooring and more importantly the rode cleats held, there would no doubt be other damage to the boat. That's the great think about the Mac....she can be taken out of harms way. The best way to survive a huricane is to get out of their way!

PS: Glad to hear about your move to Mexico. It seems like almost every time I check the news there is another huge death toll in Chicago....so I say get out of there and get to where it's safe: Mexico!
