My 3 piece boat hook from West Marine makes a very good "squirt gun".
Dip the handle end in the water and extend the first, biggest lenght to suck up some water, aim it and collapse/shrink the tubes.
I get quite a powerful, concetrated shot from the hole in the handle.
Not sure if it can reach the mast top though---

Re: Big Birds on Mast
Hi guys...
You might think this sounds stupid but !!!!!!!!
If you get a plastic owl about 12 inches tall and tie it to your halyard, you can raise it up at night or when you leave your boat and it will scare the birds away....I sail at Rutland Water in UK and thats where there trying to breed Osprey, we get a few round landing on mast's but not near my boat as the boat next to me has an Owl.....
I know you think im pulling something but it really works

madguy, I thought about suggesting the same thing as I use them (owls) in the gardens, they work great. Harbor Freight has 2 different types. http://search.harborfreight.com/cpisear ... &Submit=Go

Thanks for all the great suggestions! Mr. Skipper doesn't think I can hit the top of the mast with a super soaker, so the fake owl is now pulling ahead as the solution of choice!
Of course now that our windvane is broken off our mast is not so attractive. We went out there again overnight and the Ospreys left us alone...
