Fishers Island Sound - CT

Post by K9Kampers »

Having spent the long weekend in Mystic / Stonington CT (landbased), we were inspired by the sailing opportunities of the Fishers Island Sound area. Is anyone here a regular of this area? The Barn Island State Boat Launch looks like the best access for Mac launching. Any insights on launches & anchorages of FIS?

I've sailed the FI sound out of Mystic for years....great area....with lots to do...and good sailing...good food, etc.. Can get crowded on weekends & holidays!
I have not used the ramp, but it has been improved over past years....nice wide ramp and good water....Mac should not have any problem .
Stonington is nice town to explore. Spent many nice afternoons anchored/beached off Sandy Point just across from boat ramp. Sailing the Sound.... there are great anchorages off Fisher Island...East & West Harbors, and Ram Island cove (east side), or just day beached on Flat Hammock Island off West Harbor. An afternoon over at Watch Hill is great fun too.... also you can beach or anchor off Napatree Beach and walk around into town. Then there's Mystic...endless things to do...cruise up thru Bascule Bridge and anchor off in Mystic River for a walk in town....I've spent many nights on the hook on the river. Another spot is just northeast of Mason's Island....can get very shallow so a good spot for Mac.....when its crowded keel boats have to pass it up...can always find a spot to tuck in. Enjoy!
