Go to Advanced Search and enter the terms: 26x 26m compar* . Select Powersailor forum and results as Topics. Don't forget the asterisk, as this will return for both compare and comparison. Should keep you busy for awhile.

Re: ?X vs M?
The M is faster sails better with dagger board. The X keel makes noise at night. Galley set up is nicer on the M... I shopped around and sailed a few and the M sold me. There are some great deals out there. However there are lots of boats out there cheap. I saw a Hans Christian 38 in perfect condition which should sell for 250K sold for 100K, Pearson 385 world crusier ready 69,000.00.. When shopping for my 26 M There were multiple buyers so the 26 M is in demand as they don't stay on the market long. Craigs list San francisco and San Diego were the best spots to look. However Mine was advertized on this website in the classified section. The boat brokers that don't want to deal still have those x and M's still on the lot. Freedom sales wouldn't take any offer less than asking.. He still has the boat for sale. Not very good service for the customer he is selling the boat for.

Re: ?X vs M?
what worked for me 3 years in a slip and 30+ nights on the hook was dropping the Dagger board ....stabilizes the boat to some extent and greatly reduces and sometimes eliminates board noise. I most often have my rudders and motor down as well. ...it works for me most the time anyway.c130king wrote:Ira,irayone wrote:The M is faster sails better with dagger board. Be careful...you are swimming dangerous waters...thoseaficionados might just attack.
And to be honest, thekeel also makes noise and bangs around inside its trunk.
But having sailed on both versions I like theinterior the best...seems roomier.
Cheers,
Jim
It can get heated in the X v M thing....Just go look see what you like and what you can afford. Heck just to show ya, we had a guy on this board who got in on the Frey and he's never owned either boat...... still doesnt. figure that one??

Ha Haa he said his X was fast. I can't believe anybody would say the X or M was fast? I guess speed is a relative thing.Kelly Hanson East wrote:Myis so fast it leaves the Centreboard trunk noise behind. The blue hulled

What I like about my X is it's paid for and it's my home on the water. Oh and it's got it's own great site on the net . what a wonderful resource Steve C

My white
is so fast that passengers gain time on their watches... and when we're really moving the horizon starts to curve up a bit at the edges.

The people who sail blue hulled M's don't do drugs when sailing so we don't get that particular Carlos Castaneda effect.kmclemore wrote:My whiteis so fast that passengers gain time on their watches... and when we're really moving the horizon starts to curve up a bit at the edges.

Re: ?X vs M?
Hardly a lot of difference between them, sailing performance wise. Ever so slight edge to the M with equal skippers.
If you are in the market, look at any year X, 03-04 M, 05-present M.
All three have different interior layouts. One may trip your trigger over the others.
My white M has been up to 75mph.
Now that's fast.
But not unusual.
The Macgregors' new motto should be, "Sail slower and stay out longer".

Re: ?X vs M?
Last time I checked......
my weekend sailing may not be any longer than the blue hull owners.
However, It seems to be more enjoyable, since I spend time polishing white than the blue.

Re: ?X vs M?
Shoud I go there? I dunno. It's late at night so maybe I'll go there. Don't get mad ladies & gents.
:
Rotating mast
Daggerboard w/ less water drag vs. centerboard trunk
More sail-boat-like hull
2' taller mast=more sail area
Traveler for improved mainsail performance
Perhaps a bit more than a slight difference in performance
Lifelines that go all the way forward to the pulpit
More modern-looking interior
Sliding galley
Option for stern-rail seats
300 lbs permanent ballast for better safety when operating w/o water ballast
More usable aft berth
Stronger steering system
Larger anchor locker that will fit 14 lb danforth, 15' chain & rhode easily
Larger, more comfortable cockpit
Some prefer the interior layout over that of the M
Larger head compartment
Larger V-berth
Easier access off the stern (for swimming, etc)
Flatter hull may heel less initially
Centerboard can adjust aft to reduce weather helm
Easier to rig lines aft due to deck layout and less complex rig w/o rotating mast
Accelerates a bit faster under power
Better cockpit cushions with seatbacks
Lower cost
OK. I tried to be fair and objective. Clearly we'll all have some bias towards the boat we chose.
Fair winds,
Leon

Re: ?X vs M?
Performance wise my guess is the biggest diff is the transom release (better on the M) - the X drags a lot of water behind it which the M doesnt.
Of course, if you are buying this boat for performance, you should become Leon's best friend to see the mods you will be headed for...
