Centerboard pivot pin repair

Post by J.Teixeira »

A nice sandy beach perfect for a litlle "art of beaching"
Light sand meaning tide going up???

Image
Set ariane bi the bow and drop the kids and go back to sea.
but in a few minutes I see the tide going down fast (tides here are +-4 mt)

Image
Around the boat I start to see rocks coming up...

Image
And finally what did seem to be a line of kelp is in fact a long rock.

And I had to wait until the middle of the night (3am) for the tide return...

Now I am in the way of a big centerboard pivot pin repair...

Because a little rock was over the big rock in the exact place were it should not be...

Big pictures...

Lesson learned...
I hope...

Can you provide the lat/lon coordinates? Thanks. Those were scary pictures as you had to motor very close to that big rock. It would have mad a mess of the prop if you hit it....

Too bad about your centerboard. There are links here and there about such repair.

Been is a similar situation with our old boat at Soldiers Point, Port Stevens, NSW, stopped for a break, and a picnic, didn't get off the beach for two days, luckily we had found the only part of the beach with no oyster covered rocks.

Opie,

I'm just wondering here about your request for longitude and latitude. :| You do realize that Jose is in Portugal.

By the way Jose, that last picture looks like it would make a nice painting :D

Sim, capitão. Eu sabia. Mas eu pensei que o barco estava em uma lagoa em Portugal. Talvez o barco estava ao largo da costa oeste?

Opie,

I was about to say "that's senior ADMIRAL, TO YOU!" but you switched from Spanish to what I guess is Portuguese. So, that's Sim, ADMIRAL,to you :!: :D

Ah, yes. Every sail has the potential for adventure. Because we are human, no matter our experience.
Congratulations! You are not likely to repeat that error again, and only damaged the boat in an easily repairable way.

Ray,
I can't sail as much as I'd like, but, in a small compensatory way, I usually get a grin or two when I come to this board to find out what Mac'rs are up to. Yeah, let's go to Portugal....... !
Show me the way to San Jose

I have been to Portugal. It was Oct. of 1974 (Honeymoon :) ) It was a beautiful place to be, but it was also just after the April 1974 military coup against the dictator Marcello Caetano. When I asked our tour guide why "I hear so many fire engines", he responded, "in a war, there are winners and losers. Sometimes the losers don't like to give up" Outside of that, Portugal was a great place to visit. My wife and I would like to go back some day. Maybe to sip some port with Jose`, and watch the sun set in his beautiful valley.
