Differences in the 2005 VS. 2007/08 Mac 26M

Post by irayone »

Hi All
Any differences in the 2005 vs. 2007/08 ? Is it of the opinion that the 2007 to 2009 models are superior to the older models ?
Thanks

Not sure there are any differences, but perhaps someone who's been to the boat shows can tell us?

I'm not aware of any production changes from the 2005 model. The major changes came in with the 2005 year. Sliding galley, with different interior layout. The questions that you ask are more subjective than objective, thus Kevin's "can of worms".

I bookmarked this website some years ago and it describes the changes, not all of which were fully implemented.

In 07, they changed the pedestal. In 09, they changed the forestay attachment to where it no longer uses a turnbuckle. Not sure how it attaches now, but it is designed to work with the new MacGregor furler. They also changed the interior finish in either 08 or 09.

They re-did the deck liner, particularly the way the windows are installed and the liner meets them. This got rid of the interior wood window trim. The trim used to be an integral part of the attachment, the screws that held the windows in were simply screwed into the interior trim. They are no longer mounted that way and I believe behind the new liner they have gone back to the nuts and bolt mounting like the X had. Confirmation from those with the latest model?

I do find it strange that the pictures at the factory web site and most dealers sites still show the interior wood around the windows. How hard is it to update a digital picture.

It took a bit but I finally found one picture of the updated interior.

Was the rotating mast introduced with the first 2005 or in 2006? Mine is a 2006. I kind of like the new pedastal (2007?) because the key slot is in front - - - not on the bottom where it is harder to get to - - - but I personally like the old window trim better - - - thus - - -

Kevin's can of worms :D

I think that Roger is waiting for the telescoping bowsprit and the aft berth cooler to come online, then he'll have the website updated. :)

Add the aluminum trailer (in 07?) to the pedestal, interior wood trim, furler mentioned so far.
All M's have the rotate mast, 03-09.

I like my older 05 stainless steel pedestal. A touch more leg room.

Aft built in cooler - - - I'm still lOOking for that on my 2006. :D :D

Rick :) :macm:

PS However, I don't really need it because I have a refrigerator/coolerator and a bunch of various sized Igloos on board. Igloos are great because you can buy a six or pack of anything in any convience store and then use their soda pop ice dispenser to fill up the igloo on top of the beverages (steal the ice  ) and it stays cold forever. I never drive anywhere without one full of diet pepsi - - - beats stopping a lot and paying highway prices for the diet I always have to have in my hand.

I just mailed my deposit for an '09 on Monday. I didn't know about the window frame till after. At first i was thinking I'd just screw into the wooden frame for the wire curtain cables. Now that I see that I'd have to screw into fiberglass, I'm probably more likely to just use velcro. I'm sure I'll get used to the idea of working with glass, but it wont be this year. I am happier I think with the new pedestal because I think it gives more room for mounting gauges and a radio remote, and what have you. I'm not sure on this, but that's what I was planning on.

thanks rick. I guess another difference is the etec 60. when did they start doing that? I am getting mine factory installed. I just lucked out on that one. evinrude was winning by leaps and bounds in my little search for the right engine. I was considering going a bit bigger, but for 7k i think the factory installed 60 is hard to beat. anyone know if you can get up a large man on skis with that engine?

Yes we can - - we don't but we can (we did it once). I have the ETEC 60 on my 2006 and I LOVE the engine. Needs almost no maintenence, burns little oil, very efficient on fuel - - - - I have two 12 gallon tanks (one of the lucky onesI think) - - - and I have a range of 75 to 80 miles or so cruising (at WOT).
