The story of Frederick Fenger and his small sailing canoe exploring the Caribbean in 1918 grabs my wanderlust and stuffs it into my dream of taking the Mac to places far away and warmer......
If a Sailing Canoe can 'do' the Caribbean, whynot the Mac?

You do understand there is a large number of people who have been to the Caribbean in Mac's this isn't a hard thing to do you just need the weather to work with you. Check out http://sailfar.net this site has some Mac owners that have been there and back manytimes. Lynx is a example of a mac that has been there and back.

My Mac has been to the Bahmas twice, albeit by the PO, but I have a dream...

You can, From the charts the distances are longer and several differnt goverments. You either have to come back or ???? for the summer.
Yes, you can do it but it could be a long haul and not much anchor time.

I towed my 94Mac 26S from Tacoma, Wash. to Ft'Lauderdale last Mar. & sailed/motored to West End ,Bahamas. The trip took 22 hrs. We watched a thunderstorm light up the sky to the East during the night . We were hit with another storm 2 hrs after we tied up. I havent been offshore in a Mac during a thunderstorm, but I think I would want access to some good weather info if I were looking to go cruising down there.

Fenger's canoe technique in a squall was interesting. With the bow and aft of the craft tight with waterproof compartments, he would reef-down and sail. When the going got very rough, he would let the sea come-aboard and with water up to his waist in the cockpit he would keep the sailing canoe righted over the waves. When the winds and seas abated, he would just bail out the water and continue on. ....
Now (dreaming of course) with the Mac26, all you would have to do in a bad storm, is let the Mac swamp, getting low into the sea to ride out the storm, and then, after the storm passes, bail out and continue.......
Walter Mitty, where are you....?
