Ooops, broke part of the boom
Raising the mast at home with the boom still attached, somehow the end of the boom lifted as well, while it should have been lying on the deck. There must have been some tension on the boom, because all of a sudden it dropped and breaking the cast alloy base that connects the boom via the goosenecks to the mast.
Can anybody tell me if those cast iron end bits are standard fittings or would they be specially made for each type of boom / boat? I am trying to get the aprt locally, but might have to end up getting it from the USA and wasting any sailing time and we did have a great sail today on the bay here yesterday.

Look at the Blue Water Yacht's web site they have a new complete parts list for all parts. I was impressed with the 580 + parts catalog for Mac's. Check there add on this site.

Mistral,
In addition to Bubba's post:
You also might want to contact Blue Water Yachts by telephone: USA: (206) 282-4261.
Good Luck,

Re: Ooops, broke part of the boom
So how did the BWY parts web site work for you? You should be able to quickly put in your boat year and model then select a category to get quickly to the information you are looking for. How was the expand/collapse picture functionality? Would you like to see more than 10 items on a page as the default?

I'm curious because I wrote the new parts site code for BWY, it paid for the used Tohatsu TLDI 70/90 motor now on my X. I'm always looking for things I can improve.
The goal was to have a site where in a matter of a few entries you could go from the full list of parts to a shortlist with what you are looking for. It is written completely in client side javascript using a XML data file. This lets it be hosted on a std. web server with no server side code or database. You pay a small price up front to load the full data set into the searchable, collapsible table, but from there on your browser does all the work. It also runs about twice as fast in Firefox as in IE7, however IE8 blows Firefox away.

You can also try the dwyer website. I think that is where the boom and mast comes from originally.

Re: Ooops, broke part of the boom
The parts web site is definately complete except for photos of a lot of parts. I just like to match a photo and the name so I order the right part. I would have to call on some parts to make sure without a large photo. I sail but don't know sail hardware names. Is Tod adding the photos ?

Re: Ooops, broke part of the boom
Just a suggestion for those economy minded cash strapped individuals such as myself, try to discover who made the part for macgregor9 it can take some digging) and contact them directly, you can save a bundle sometimes. I recently added a second axle to my 2008 26M trailer, axle and hubs were shipped from UFP(the manufactr) to my home in tucson for 325.00,quite a savings from what any mac dealer would give you, after all they have to turn a substancial profit.

Re: Ooops, broke part of the boom
The cap on my boom similarly failed and had to be replaced. When I examined the original cap, I noticed that one of the two holes drilled in it, which hold the pair of securing set screws, had been drilled too close to the edge, making it inherently weak. It would probably be a good idea for owners to check these caps, to make sure the holes aren't positioned excessively close to the edge. The caps are made from fairly weak pot metal and obviously a potential point of failure.

Re: Ooops, broke part of the boom
Following several suggestions on the Oz website I have now repaired the boom end fitting. There was still plenty of "meat" on it for pop riveting. I am still getting the St St replacements, as I feel these cast alloy end fittings are a weak link on the boom.
Bubba,
Apart from the pictures that are missing in several areas, I found the website easy to negotiate.

Re: Ooops, broke part of the boom
So far, if I needed replacement parts for my X, I just call the factory and drive over to get them. I got the trailer front wheel, speader tubes, a cockpit table and a lot of advice. Ask for Bill at Macgregor, he is very helpful but very busy so don't be long winded. I am sure he will mail parts.

Re: Ooops, broke part of the boom
The only problem I had with the factory, was that they didn't accept credit cards, and would not ship the item (replacement rudder) to me until they received my certified check in the mail. Weird policy.

Re: Ooops, broke part of the boom
I think you will find that the factory will now refer you to BWY for all non-current production boat parts. Earlier this year they shipped their entire inventory to Todd along with the parts drawings that could be used to make more out of production parts. BWY is now the sole North American supplier for out of production MacGregor parts.
Re: Ooops, broke part of the boom
I think Duane's statement about BWY being the sole NA parts supplier for out of production parts should be a headliner on its own instead of just a reply in someone's post. Most of us will miss it otherwise.
Someone mentioned that Macgregor cut up all of the X molds so its great that BWY will have some parts.
