Sea Shippment of 26X

Post by Randy Brown »

I own 1995 26X boat, motor & trailer. It is in Ohio. I would like to ship it international sea freight.

I have read & been told and saw a picture that the boat fits in U.S.A. train & semi tractor trailer type containers called 48/102. I have read it fits in a 40 foot standard sea shippment container, but I have found it does not fit in standard 40 foot sea shipmment container.

I have been told it may fit in a 40 foot high sea shippment container, but it will take special care and packing. Are there instructions on how a boat can be put into & shipped in a container? Does anyone have experence or a contacts?

I seem to recall that many changes are required, perhaps even removing the trailer axle.

Have you tried phoning the Macgregor factory.
They must do this month after month.

I called the Mac Gregor company at the number listed on their web sight. I called twice. I was able to ask about shipping and they were very nice both times, but since it was not a shippment of a new boat, they did not want to get involved. I asked for a name or number of a shipper or person with experence, but they did not want to get involved. A man did tell me the trailer fenders & axil needed to be removed, an the boat needed to be tilted and it would take special packing experence. A woman told me not all models would fit and it would also take some packing experence. I was trying to find some of that experence.

Thank you
Randy

Rich, I wouldn't mind seeing what you discovered about container shipping. Think you could post a brief outline here on Heath's forum?

shipping 26X

Post by coffeyd »

Everyone asks about container shipping. I can't speak to that subject but I did ship my 26X on a flat rack from LA to the Marshall Islands in the middle of the Pacific. It cost me about $6K (Army paid for most) and I put it in the water that day because I had made no mods to the trailer. It was a little dirty from travelling exposed, but oterh than that, no damage. If I can figure out how, I will attach a photo of the offloading.

OK, how do you attach a photo?
