Need dimensions for 160 Genoa with Furling

Hi. I think I have the size of 155% (might be the hank-on though so might need that too), but was wondering if anyone had them for the 160?

I'm a little confused with the info. from the above site.

If the Luff is the leading edge of the sail, then equating a mainsail to a triangle, the following numbers don't seem correct for the Main.

MacGregor 26M Main..28'2"........27'5"..........10'5"
..................Jib.....25'4"........21'6"...........11'9"...........9'8"
..................Genoa 25'4"........22'8"...........16'9"..........14'8"

With the base (Foot) of the triangle being 10' and the verticle side (Luff) being 28', the hypotenuse (Leech, 27') should be longer than the Luff?

Good catch Ray. I agree. The Leech cannot be shorter than the luff unless the foot is less than 90 degrees to the luff.

I saw this link a while back in my searches but I had doubt as to whether these were correct because I assume these are hank-on measurements.

Would the measurements change for the genoa when comparing hank-on vs. furled?

I notice the 26M genoa is the same size as the 26X. Does the "M" come with hank-on or furler options?

Of couse it does!
I had a hank-on Jib & hank-on genoa before I had them converted to #6 luff tape and they can be pre-ordered with luff tape or hank-on from Kelly-Hanson or others.
I have a 150% genoa (205 sq.ft.) that works fine, why wwould one want 10% more? Would 160% equal 225.5 sq.ft? or would it be an additional 10% longer leach & foot? There is not a whole lot of room for a longer luff on the forestay especially with a rollerfurler.

I think the leech and foot are extended.

I beleive the 160 would have a longer foot towards the rear so the leech maybe a wee bit longer

The M and X genoas are the same - I have an M genny on my X btw.

The 160 should be 10% longer than the 150 in the foot - the 'percentage' is describing how far aft past the mast the clew of the sail extends with 100 being a head sail that just reaches the mast.


You can order the genny with either hanks or #6 luff tape for the CDI furler.

From what I remember in the "Ancient Mariner's School", the percentage is relative to the area of the fore triangle. That is from the tack to head and back down to mast base. 100% fills this area.

So essentially 150%-160% could be only 20% beyond the mast.....

You can calculate the area of a triangle by multiplying the height by 1/2 the base. Basically bottom of mast to foresail hound times half the length of the foot. Other factors com in to play with a sail, but this will give you a close estimate. A little algebra will let you calculate the length of the foot for a given area increase.
