Totally agree on the freezer, but rather than all the other electrical work I've been thinking about the honda camping generator. Like you financing is the killer. But I like the idea of the extra power trading carring only a couple gallons of gas. Which is easy in the lazaret. I could use the gas from my motors tank but I'm thinking of setting the generator closer to the bow so it isn't over the berth.

yes...

yamaha, honda inverter generators are very tempting, i am toying with the idea of solar panels, but at the same time considering those generators.... :? :?

I installed an 11 watt solar panel on the roof, in front of the mast when I purchased the boat new in 1993. At the time 11 watts was a large (and rather expensive) solar panel. With the small regulator (to prevent overcharging) it kept the factory deep cycle battery charged for almot 8 years. We have a lot of lighting, 12v fridge, vhf, radio, instruments, Autohelm, and the usual collection of cell phones, gps, and junk. If I were to do it today, I would not hesitate for a second at the installation of a solar panel.

Cheers

Agree, Gary. I have a 40-watt panel on my sliding hatch and it really does help. If I had it to do over again, though, I'd either make it tilt (to get early morning and late afternoon sun) and/or add a bigger panel. 40-watt is too small to keep up with our needs, and we find ourselves having to either motor around or use the Honda 1000 to recharge every few of days.

So Kevin, that infers you have BOTH the 40w panel AND the Honda 1kw genset?
Where do you stow the generator, and would you prefer to leave it at home in favor of another panel?
