Re: Catalina Anyone? (for Jul-Aug 2008)
After reviewing the plans of some here, the Admiral and I have decided to also join the others who are looking to sail over instead of the high speed motoring as we have done in the past.
We still plan on splashing sometime in the afternoon Thursday, and overnighting at B.C.park.
We'll set sail when others do on Friday morning.
I'd offer a suggestion to cast off around 7:30-8:00 and slow motor along for about an hour or so until the wind does get up.
Don't forget that Thursday NIghts are Concert Nights at the park. Slips might be somewhat harder to get until some concert-goers leave after the performance.
Rafting up is okay to do there, but they still want their money.

Re: Catalina Anyone? (for Jul-Aug 2008)
Leaving between 7:30 and 8:00 A.M. on Friday is ideal for me. However, the weather forecast indicates a strong chance for A.M. coastal fog. I'd vote for a delay until the fog lifts, if there is heavy fog. Any other opinions??

I agree Dennis. There is quite a bit of commercial traffic in the channel. Without radar the fog poses a hazard. In my experience the fog burns off pretty early in August, usually by ten or so. I hope to reach the ramp at Cabrillo by ten and arrive at my can about noon. See you there!

Add one more Mac to the "floatilla" going to the Isthmus this coming weekend. We'll be leaving Friday morning probably from Alamitos Bay, and be on R-2, nearest the beach and just west of the pier. The boat's name is "Creola"... We'll be looking for you guys!

Hello Everyone!
I have made a reservation at Isthmus for 8/8 and 8/9 on the string line. I was assigned number 26. I talked to Sue at the harbor master's office @ 310 510-4253; she is a very nice person to talk to and extremely accommodating and helpful. I told her that this would be my first time sailing beyond the Santa Monica Bay, but Sue assured me that everything would be just fine!
If you want to reserve a space, you will need a credit card and the “CF” number.
I’m planning to depart from Marina del Rey at about 8:00 am Friday morning. Even though the forecast by the National Weather Service indicates patchy fog before 11am, by the time I reach the shipping lanes, it will be 11 am. Should the fog still be a concern, I’ll heave to and wait it out there and perhaps do a little fishing. Safety first! I hope to arrive at Isthmus between 2:00 and 4:00 pm.
I’m really looking forward to meeting up with all of you!
Finn

Re: Catalina Anyone? (for Jul-Aug 2008)
I have changed my reservations. I will be on can "Outside 22" which is on the stringline. After a long talk with the harbor masters office it appears there are 4 cans on the stringline which are suitable for Mac's. The rest of the line are for 25' and less. The ease of making reservations seems to vary with the secretary you reach. See you there!

Well? How did it go? We couldn't make it as we had something Saturday. We were out Sunday and met up with a couple on a 2005 (blue) Mac visiting from Phoenix, AZ. Conditions were very nice. So who made it?

Mark,
The flotilla hasn't left yet.
Leaving this Friday morning, 08/08/08, at 0800 with other various start times and locations.
Two Harbors the target.
Why not join in?
You will make it 8 boats on 8/8/08 leaving at 8am.
I think 6 or 7 have signed on so far.
The weather looks perfect for a sail/motor over and/or back.
10 to 15 kts out of the W.
Perhaps a nice fat broad reach the whole trip.
To all, how about a simple roster of first names and boat names for comm use on VHF ch 68
I'll start the list with:
Bill and Sue on "Cease-fire"

I don't mind how long it takes as I take as much joy in the voyage as the destination.

Ahoy Cpatain Pat,
You just infringed on my "copy righted" slogan (The Goal is the Voyage, NOT the Destination). My lawyer brother, John, will be talking to your lawyer wife, Susan, in the morning about amount of appropiate compensation.
Hope to see you at Fall Flotilla Sail, Oct 10-17.
