ive recieved my new spin a couple of weeks ago,on my first trip the winds were very light and i found it easy to deploy,on the second day,the winds were gusting from 6-10knots,i found it a real handfull.
I have since re read maddmikes post on it,i need an auto pilot, single handing with this sail is not easy, next weekend that im out,im going to try blocking the helm,i also need to add guides to my cleats.
The upwind performance with this sail was most impressive,i "raced" a ketch who had all three sails fully up and i was pointing about the same as the ketch and my speed was faster,i was getting 3 knots in 4 knot winds
im considering making a removable bowsprit

Re: A- symertical and racing spinnikers with spinniker pole
I just added a new 8" longer anchor roller (on sale for $55.00) with a pully for the spinnaker tack line .http://s293.photobucket.com/albums/mm42 ... nakert.jpg This will allow us to adjust the tack line from the cockpit for pointing up wind and out for running down wind and the tack line to clear the bow rail and light. It also allows easier hooking up and removal of the spinnaker tack line with a quick disconnect. I am thinking of adding a pully on the side of the anchor roller for the Chutescoop ( dousing sock) this will help control the spinnaker if the wind gets gusty or too windy.

Bubba, hope you don't mind me asking, what is the OD, ID and length of the bow sprit pole, do you know if BWY supply a kit to retrofit on to a
? we already have the spinnaker and ChuteScoop, I am yet to let it fly as we are still getting use to the boat.

the quickest and easiest is the poormans spinnaker sock w/downhaul. If you dont use the sock, and you are by yourself, lauching and dousing are easier through the front hatch, a couple of small control lines to head and clew run back through the hatch speed up the dousing, but you will still have to have the hatch openfor a whle.
On my I-14 I had a large piece of 8" diameter pvc Pipe I funnelled the chute through to douse and launch. Looks ugly, but makes it a one man job. once through the pipe I would hand over hand the chute with foot on the rudder. The mac sail is larger and needs a longer and wider tube, but should work the same. Could even strap the tube on deck and leave the sail in it till needed. then you wouldnt have to fight the hatch and make the mess below deck
