First Mac 19 Sail

Finally after 9 months of frustration and delay, I got my Mac 19 in the water and sailed it!

This is a really sweet sailing easy to handle boat - after deciding that the 19 ought to be a great fit for river cruising for Mary and I, we bought her last fall and have been upgrading the interior for comfortable cruising for two. (Will post mods soon)

All I can say is that anyone who badmouths the sailing capabilities of the 19 probably hasn't sailed one. It is not a speed demon but I have already been there. It is, however, quite a competent, comfortable, roomy little craft just right for two.

Your right she is a great roomy little boat with a big heart !! I have owned one for 4 1/2 years & done alot of mods on mine & now she sails like the cats A$$
you'll have a lot of fun with that boat , maybe consider making the hinged cabin hatch a pop-top with a couple gas struts that will give you about 5ft 11" to 6ft head room while docked or anchored

I probably won't carry as much canvas as you but I am interested in how you did the pop-top.

I bought 2 #60 psi gas struts will have to check the length now ! at the moment I only have one on their that came with the boat I beleive it is only A # 20psi, I went with the #60 because I beleive I could then sit on the hatch top when raised , install the gas struts remove the hatch top hinge screws & replace with poss 3/16 hitch pins buy & install the mast brkt the the 25 or 26 macs use to hold & attach the pop-top to the mast, I never got around to finnishing this mod as I bought a new 26m so now I'm too busy doing mods to it & waiting on parts that should have been here a week ago !!! or more ??

I made a sliding hatch for my 19 and it works great, I'll post the pics when I can get my brother-in-law over to show me how. (I'm not very computer savvy)
