This site might be handy, although it geared mainly towards the eastern seaboard.

When you find useful links, please submit them using the Sailing Links page under Resources. Once you select a category there will be an option to submit a link. Submitting links here will make it easier to keep track of them than putting them in forum posts. If a listed category doesn't seem to fit, PM me what you think we are missing.

Good ramps in Western Australia are few and far between. Apart from private yacht clubs ramps...members only...and excluding government department, fishing, police, army ...ramps, there is only ONE half decent one in the whole Swan River.. over the road from H.M.A.S. LEEUWIN and next door to the SWAN YACHT CLUB. A long way to go if you live north of the river. The ocean access ramps are pretty good, but a madhouse on weekends.
The access road from the trailer parking area to the launch ramp at Hillarys is so narrow it is a squeeze for the :macm: and THATS saying something.
Also at Hillarys we have miles of jettys but no one is allowed to use them. All charter boats have to remain in their secure pens and only have half an hour to pick up or drop off passengers. Sorry about that, my personal beef...the rules there sent me broke. not in the game any longer.
Has no government controlled tourist bureau ever heard about the "apple on the shelf" selling method?
If it can be done with chocolates at Coles, why not with charter boats in good harbours...And I do hope a Minister of Tourism read this. One final beef...why are cars, just passing, allowed in launching areas?
Surely it should be restricted to vehicles towing boat trailers...???? :? :? :| Puggsy...

Woodmans Point Public Boat Ramps

Location: Woodmans Point Reserve, Western Australia
GPS: -32.138900; 115.763000
Gives access to: Cockburn Sound, Garden and Carnac Islands, dredged channel to north of Sound gives access to Gauge Roads, Fremantle and Rottnest Island

Road access: Off Cockburn Road (O'Kane Court, Jervoise Bay Cove, mostly sealed roads)
Ramp fees: Nil
Ramp construction: Four good quality concrete ramps, separated by two narrow walkway docks(four new ramps under construction)
Weather protection: Cockburn Sound is sheltered from Westerly swells by Garden Island. The ramps are protected by substantial inner and outer harbour breakwaters. Some vulnerability remains to strong south-westerly winds.
Water depth: Depth at docks approximately 2m, remainder of harbour 2m plus
Rigging area: Bitumen paved, no overhead hazards. Area is limited and gets very congested
Parking: Large crushed limestone parking area. Free (at present). Periodically patrolled but not secure. Frequented by hoons doing wheelies and burnouts during off peak periods
Washdown facilities: None
Toilets: Yes, including toilet for disabled.
Provisions: Kiosk at nearby Cockburn Powerboat Storage sells hot snacks, bait, fishing gear and some basic boating equipment.
Usage: Constant. Very busy during fine weekends

General: Overall these ramps are accessible and easy to use, but do get very busy during good weather. Additional ramps are currently under construction(July 2008). Cross winds can present a docking/retrieval problem for Macs. Sea Rescue operates out of adjacent Cockburn Powerboat Association

That's a good posting Oskar...Have sailed in there in my mates SS20....but not yet in the :macm: ...
He can scoot out of Fremantle without having to lower his mast and we usually head south to have a look at how the new marina at Coogee is progressing. Then we can scoot home on the sea breeze..
Will look out for you when next down there...regards...puggsy

p.s. this is the last trip down...on the beach at Naval Base...

nice pic puggsy... shows off the crystal clear waters of the Sound (as well as the boat) :)
I should qualify my earlier post a little... construction of additional ramps is now in full swing with earth moving machinery and pile drivers all over the place.
It was bedlam there on Saturday with hundreds of boat rigs competing for a much reduced parking area (taken over by the construction crew). I decided to stay ashore, lol
However, at the rate the construction is going, it should all be over very soon (I hope)

Several members of the OZ trailersailerplace have promised to put more ramps on this site http://www.baum.com.au/ramps/Notepad now. So this can become a very handy reference. This website can be found under the Sailing Links/Sailing Locations on this website
